For now, I was content.

A couple minutes later, Aggie was yelling from the backyard, telling her that Aunt Josie was there, and they were going book shopping, then getting lunch.

“I mean, for old time’s sake,” I said when I was sure she was gone, climbing onto Cato’s lap.

There was never any hesitation with him.

His lips were on mine, and his hands were sneaking up under my shirt, teasing over my skin, then drawing it up and off, tossing it carelessly behind us.

He leaned me back on his legs then, making my head hang over, the water below me, the sky above, and Cato leaning over my chest to tease his lips over my skin.

It was always like this with him.

Even after these years.

Shivers and anticipation.

Losing track of time and surroundings.

Getting completely lost in each other.

That warm, gooey lava cake sensation afterward.

All these years later.

“You know what we need right now?” I asked.

“Lava cake?” he asked, knowing me so damn well, already reaching for his phone to get it ordered.

“And something horrifically gory on the TV.”

Aggie did turn out to love Halloween.

But she didn’t like the really bloody shit that I did.

“With a little foot massage to finish things off with?” he asked, reaching down to help me to my feet.

“See, I knew there was a reason I married you…”
