I grinned up at him. “Awesome.”

“So me being a biker doesn’t scare you?” he asked as he opened the passenger side door for me.

“Not even a little bit.” I flashed him a small smile after getting settled in my seat. “More like the opposite. My dad will be relieved to know you’re with me.”

His eyes widened in surprise. “You really think so?”

“I know he will.” I waited until Kurt rounded to the driver’s side and climbed into the car to add, “The only reason he was okay with me attending college so far away was that he knew there was a club in town with a good reputation. He told me to go to your clubhouse and tell them who I was if anything bad ever happened.”

It was fucking hot that Willa was a club princess. And gaining her trust so quickly would make it much easier to convince her that she was mine now. I’d already made the decision, but when she cried in my arms…it solidified my resolve. Willa needed me to protect her, care for her, and make sure she had everything she could ever want for the rest of her life.

I almost laughed when she told me her dad would be relieved to find out she was with me. Not that he couldn’t trust her safety to me—that wouldn’t even be a question between us—but I doubted he’d be as supportive if he knew all the dirty things I intended to do to his little girl.

Bear and Alyssa popped into my head, and a new idea began to form. Alyssa’s father was the sheriff of our small town, and we’d always had a tenuous relationship. He looked the other way at times, and we helped out when needed. When Bear basically kidnapped his daughter, he knew there’d be a fight to keep her when the sheriff found out. So he’d knocked her up, making it impossible for Alyssa’s dad to force them apart.

The image of Willa with a round belly and wearing nothing but her property vest nearly caused me to drive off the road, but I caught myself before I’d even swerved a little, so I didn’t freak out Willa.Bear was definitely on to something.

I pulled into Willa’s small apartment complex and found a spot close to her door on the second floor. I nodded in approval at what I was sure was her father’s choice of apartment. The height of the place kept most people from breaking in, but it was close enough to the ground that she could get down the steps and run away fast. Worst case, she could also jump over the railing and land without too much injury in the case of a fire or other emergency.

“How did you know where I live?” Willa’s soft voice floated across the car, and I turned my head to see her watching me curiously but without any suspicion or fear. Her instinct to trust me had to be more than just the fact that a nurse had vouched for me or that I was a Silver Saint. I was happy to see the proof she was also feeling the same deep connection between us.

“Your hospital records.”

“Is that against your code of ethics or whatever oath it is you guys take?”

I grinned and shook my head. “No harm in looking, sweetheart.” The blush returned to her cheeks, tempting me to drag her across the car onto my lap. But she needed to recover from her injury before things heated up any more. My tone was low and seductive when I added, “It’s what we do with the information that matters.”

“Um…” Willa looked a little dazed, and I couldn’t help feeling a little smug at my effect on her. She twisted around and opened her car door, taking a deep breath before swinging her feet out. Before she could stand, I put a hand on her arm.

“Wait for me,” I instructed. When she looked back at me with a raised eyebrow and slightly indignant frown, I had to suppress a chuckle.

“I’m not an invalid, and I don’t need a man to do things for me.”

“Sweetheart, my desire to open your door and help you out has nothing to do with either of those.” That took some of the wind out of her sails, and this time, I couldn’t keep in my bubble of mirth. “First, just because you aren’t an invalid doesn’t mean you couldn’t use a little help. Not needing help and gracefully accepting it are two very different things.”

“Well, I suppose…” She trailed off, her argument having lost its foundation.

“Also, I was raised to respect women, and that includes doing things like opening their doors. My momma would have my fucking hide if she found out I’d let you get out of the car without offering my assistance. And trust me, no one wants to be in the path of her wrath.”

Willa giggled, and her face turned soft and dreamy for a moment. “Sounds like you really love your mom.”

I nodded and shot her another grin before unhooking my seat belt and opening my door. “I love my mother every bit as much as I fear her. Sometimes, I think even God wouldn’t disagree with her.” She laughed as I climbed out of her matchbox car and shut the door. I jogged to her side and held out my hand.

Willa smirked as she allowed me to gently pull her to her feet. “I hope you realize that you just gave me all the ammunition I need to get what I want.”

I refrained from telling her that I would always give her anything she wanted if it was within my power. Unless it jeopardized her safety or our future family’s. Instead, I gasped dramatically with a horrified expression. “Are you threatening to tattle to my mother, Willa?”

She threw her head back and belted a laugh that sent tingles all over my body. Fuck, she was beautiful.

After a minute, she composed herself and grimaced, putting her free hand on her head. “Ouch,” she muttered.

“Let’s go, sweetheart,” I said as I swung her up into my arms. To my surprise, she didn’t protest and snuggled into my chest instead. “You need rest.” I kissed the top of her head as I headed for the stairs that led to her apartment. At the door, she raised her head and looked at it with panic before turning that same expression on me.

“He…” She gulped. “He has the keys to my apartment.”
