Brody rolled his eyes and led Aiden out of the room.

“I’m guessing they’re here to speak to me,” I said as I got to my feet and went to sit on the front edge of Stefan’s desk.

“I believe so,” Stefan said behind me. “You’ve been in Ireland visiting family for a little over a month.” He gave me the date I’d left for Ireland and the time my flight had departed.

“When did I arrive home?” I asked and noticed Dean, which reminded me of Detective Brooks.

“Two weeks ago, same day you actually returned home,” Stefan answered.

“Dean, why don’t you—” I started to ask him to leave when there was a knock on the study’s door.

Fuck.

“Come in,” Stefan said loud enough for Jamie to hear.

Jamie came into the room first. Detectives Cameron and Brooks followed in right behind him. Jamie veered off to the side to stand against the wall next to Dean.

“Detectives,” Stefan greeted them without getting up from his desk. “What can we do for you?”

The Detectives stopped walking when they were a few feet from me. “We’re here to speak to Miss Quinn,” Detective Cameron said.

CHAPTERFIFTEEN

“What are you here to accuse me of today?” I asked the detectives.

Not at all pleased with me, Detective Cameron, the more seasoned of the two, frowned. “Are you aware of the event that took place at Yale New Haven Hospital that resulted in Louie Dupont being shot?”

“My father informed me of it,” I answered.

“We had witnesses who said they saw a redheaded woman at the scene and that she was being kidnapped,” Cameron said.

I noticed his use of the wordhad. “Let me guess, you think that redhead was me?”

“Is there another redheaded woman that has a connection to Jameson Coleman and Louie Dupont?” Detective Brooks asked.

Between the two, Detective Brooks gave me the most unease, especially with Dean in the room. I had underestimated the baby cop initially. Turned out that he’d recruited Dean to go undercover and infiltrate our family. Dean, despite being a cop, liked the dark side we Quinns had to offer and hadn’t given Brooks shit. Well, I’d had him give Brooks information to incriminate my mother, who apparently was still alive. If anyone found out that Dean was a cop, I wasn’t sure I could save him, and if the family found out that I’d given a cop information, even if it was on an enemy, Stefan really wouldn’t be able to save me.

I folded my arms across my chest. “I don’t keep track of the women in their lives, and besides, I was in Ireland at the time.”

Cameron surprised me when his eyes dropped to my chest. “Yes, I’m aware of that.” His eyes jumped up to meet mine. “How’d you hurt your hand?”

I didn’t have to look down to know what he was talking about. The cuts across my fingers from the handcuff were closed, but still pink. “I accidentally slammed my hand in a car door.”

Cameron’s eyes narrowed in disbelief. “Do you know what’s strange?” he asked. “The witnesses who said they saw a redheaded woman all changed their story when we followed up with each of them with more questions. Every single one insists that the woman’s hair color was brown. Why do you think that happened?” I watched as his gaze shifted to Stefan behind me.

“It sounds to me that the first time you interviewed these witnesses, you only heard what you wanted to hear,” I said.

Cameron glared at me. “What’s even weirder is that all the footage the cameras recorded in the hospital during the time of the shooting was erased.”

As Cameron droned on about the hospital’s cameras, I caught Detective Brooks staring at Dean with a smirk. Dean was so still as he glared back at him, I didn’t think he was breathing. I pushed off the desk and moved to block Stefan’s view of Brooks. “As much as I love a good mystery, do you have any more questions to ask me?”

Cameron’s gaze dropped to my hand that was now hanging at my side. “I think this visit isn’t going to be any more informative.”

“If you have what you need…” I heard Stefan say, but I stopped hearing him when I saw Jamie notice the way Brooks and Dean were staring at each other. I watched as he took them in and questions began to form in his eyes, then suspicion.

“We’ll see ourselves out,” Cameron said.

“Jameson will escort you,” Stefan insisted, and Jamie pushed off the wall.
