I opened my eyes and saw Louie standing at the foot of the bed, Kieran in his arms. He was grinning down at the two of us.

“Did you know that my room is next to this one?” he asked. “Imagine my surprise when I heard…familiar sounds that I haven’t heard in quite some time coming through the wall.”

I sat up from where I was lying on top of Jamie. Louie’s eyes dropped to my naked chest, and he did nothing to hide the desire in his eyes. “I have to admit that I was getting jealous by round number four,” he said. “I was tempted to come and join you, but Brody and Stefan showed up with the baby looking for you. Apparently, you were supposed to relieve Brody of baby duty hours ago. They could hear that you were occupied.” Louie let out a chuckle. “I’ve never seen Stefan so uncomfortable.”

Shit!“What time is it?”

“Dinner time,” Louie answered. “They didn’t want to interrupt the two of you, so I offered to take him.” Louie glanced down at Kieran with a warm smile. “We’ve been hanging out since then.”

I ripped off the blankets and began looking for my clothes that were scattered everywhere.

Jamie sat up in bed. “What’s the matter?”

“I told Stefan I’d be at dinner,” I said as I dressed.

Jamie climbed out of bed and began collecting his clothes. “I haven’t forgotten about Dean and the cop.”

I was almost dressed when I looked over at him. “I need you to let it go, Jamie. I know it’s a lot to ask you to trust me when I say I have it handled.”

He frowned as he finished zipping up his pants and appeared ready to push the matter.

“If you pursue this, you will not only risk Dean’s life, but mine as well,” I said.

He went still. They both did as they stared at me.

“Please, Jamie, let this go,” I pleaded.

He debated long enough to make me nervous. “Will you eventually tell me what’s going on?”

I thought about it and considered the risks.

“You’re asking for trust, but you don’t trust him in return, or me for that matter,” Louie pointed out. “You know we love you, and even though we’ve fucked up, it was out of the need to protect you.”

I nodded and slid into my suit jacket. “I’ll tell you when I can.” I grabbed my gun from where I’d stashed it under the pillow, tucked it into the back of my pants, and held my hands out to take the baby from Louie.

He didn’t hand him over. “You might want to pop into the bathroom before you head out.” His voice had gone serious. “I don’t like the idea of anyone seeing what you look like when you’ve been thoroughly fucked.”

I didn’t argue and headed for the connected bathroom. After flipping on the light, I took in my appearance in the mirror. My hair was wild and my makeup was smeared. Using my fingers and a little bit of water from the sink, I got to work on making myself a little more presentable.

“She seems...” I overheard Louie say in a low voice.

“Less cold,” Jamie finished for him.

“I was going to say less pissed-off and scary, but that works, too,” Louie said.

The corner of my mouth twitched as I finished up by quickly running my fingers through my hair.

I returned to the bedroom. Louie looked me over before handing over a sleeping Kieran. “He just fell asleep.”

Jamie came to stand by me and put his hand on my back. “Are you coming down for dinner?” he asked Louie. It was then that I noticed Louie was dressed in a dark blue, long-sleeved shirt and jeans instead of sweats.

“I need to see more than that room and I’m feeling strong enough to do it,” Louie said.

With that said, the three of us and baby Kieran headed downstairs to the dining room.

CHAPTERSIXTEEN

Stefan was already seated at the head of the table when we entered the dining room, and he wasn’t alone. Brenna, Rourke, my uncle Conor, and my aunt Kiara were also sitting at the table. When everyone noticed us, Rourke and Conor greeted us with hellos.
