Nicoli walked with me as we made our way through the large space. Heads turned, some did a double take, and people whispered as we walked by.

Louie leaned close and explained who each man was at the table we were heading to. “Rourke is going to mingle at other tables to try and spread the news faster,” he said after he was done going over everyone.

I nodded and Rourke along with his goons broke off from our group.

As we approached our intended table, the men at it were laughing. My and Nicoli’s goons went to stand by the wall, while Dario, Louie, and Brenna remained with us. Nicoli allowed me to take point in greeting the table.

“Hello, gentlemen. Do you mind if my friend and I join you?”

Their laughter stopped at the sound of my voice. Almost instantly, I could see them forming assumptions about me that were absolutely wrong.

“And who might you be?” said Conrad Johnson, the president of a local MC that had sister chapters all throughout the New England area. He was a bear of a man, clad in jeans and a black leather vest. He had a long blonde beard with streaks of white in it.

The other two men sitting at the table were a rich businessman named Erik Teller and…well, I supposed the other was a pimp. Hector Sullivan ran a high-end escort service, and I didn’t mean the kind of escort service where the ladies stood in as dates to events for rich men. His style gave off an old-time gangster vibe, with his gelled, slicked-back brown hair and the emerald-green suit he wore.

“My name is Maura Quinn.” I enjoyed the recognition that graced all of their faces. I also noticed the table behind us and the table to the right go quiet.

“Stefan Quinn’s daughter?” Erik asked.

“Heard you took out all the Aryans,” Conrad said, winking. “Nice job.”

“I also heard you were the head of the Quinn family now,” Hector added.

“That’s right,” I said, and I watched as their eyes shifted to Nicoli.

“Did you say he was your friend?” Hector asked.

“Yes,” I answered.

“Last time I checked, Quinns and De Lucas didn’t get along so well,” Conrad said as he looked back and forth between Nicoli and me.

I smiled politely. “Sounds to me like you’re a little behind on current events. If you let us join you, I’d be happy to catch you gentlemen up.”

Erik gave me a charming smile. “Have a seat, then.”

Nicoli and I sat at the table while Dario, Brenna, and Louie stood behind us. Two practically naked waitresses showed up with my and Nicoli’s chips. As I was stacking them, I heard a feminine voice say, “Will you be needing chips this evening, Mr. Dupont?”

I turned in my seat slowly and gave Louie a look that screamed,What the fuck?

He let out a nervous laugh and shook his head at her. “No. I won’t be needing any chips to—”

“Go mingle, Louie,” I ordered as I spun back around.

“I guess I’ll be needing those chips after all,” I heard Louie say behind me.

Nicoli huffed a laugh as he finished organizing his chips.

I leaned close so only he would hear me. “What?”

“I’ve never seen you jealous before,” he said, keeping his voice low.

I smirked. “If I truly had been jealous, I would have killed her.”

“So you make your men sweat for fun?”

My smirk turned into a sly grin. “I’ve been in a torturing mood today and I can’t seem to help myself.”

As the dealer began dealing out cards, the men at the table couldn’t wait to inquire about things. They asked about Nicoli’s and my alliance, which they seemed impressed by. Then they started asking questions about the Aryans.
