“Take me to her,” my request sounds more like a demand.

“First, we need to put this somewhere safe, then I’ll happily do so.”

Taking the box from Finn, I nod my approval of his plan. It’s a slight hiccup, nothing more. Closing my eyes, the box disappears and my gaze lands on his once more. “Now.”

“You’ve become bossy with the weight of your crown,” he sneers, a smirk forming on his lips like a proud father witnessing his son rise to power. “I see you’ve officially overthrown your old man. Is he in the crypt?”

“No. He’s in the dungeon, but he’s king no more. Are you done stalling?”

He chuckles, shaking his head. “I could never pull one over on you.”

“I’m happy you’re alive, but if Alice dies while I’m waiting for you to show me where to go, you might not live long enough to get your happily ever after with–” I cut off, pausing for him to insert his woman’s name.

“Eva.”

“Eva…” I repeat.

“I see the fates have their bloody talons in you again.”

“No. They’ve left me alone since Luri came limping up to the boundary, claiming Alice was eaten by trolls.”

“Then why the death threats? She just killed the most ruthless man in the realms. Trust me, she’s more than capable of handling herself, and she’s not alone. Eva is with her, and I’m in no rush to glimpse their carnage. Then there’s also…” he stops speeding, seemingly freezing mid-word.

“Also what?”

“Your brother…” his voice raises an octave if not two as he cringes, like he’s awaiting me to strike him. “Matter of fact, he’s the one who brought me here.”

“He’s helping her? That must’ve been who was with her. She can’t teleport, so he brought her here.” I drag a hand down my face. “It makes sense. I warned her to stay away from him, and naturally, that compelled her to seek him out.” I exhale deeply, finding Finn still awkwardly smiling. “What am I missing? There’s more, isn’t there?”

“I’m not sure I… I think we should get to Solaria. Like you said, the quicker the better, right?”

I step closer, slowing down my words. “What… am I…missing?”

“What gave you that inclination?” he laughs, threading his fingers through his hair and pushing the unruly locks hanging in his face backward.

“Your face.” Any hint of humor is gone. I want an answer and I’ll get it.

“From what I’ve heard, he saved her from the trolls.” There’s more. I can feel it. I scowl, narrowing my gaze hard. “She kissed him. That’s all I know.” My heart slams into my ribs in a chaotic drumbeat as my blood heats and boils. “In her defense, she was high and thought he was you. Word for word.”

The feeling dissipates at any mention of her thinking he was me. I suppose I can’t be upset with her for it. I’ll have questions, sure, but I did sleep with her without being a hundred percent certain it was her to begin with.

I need to see her, but I can’t just teleport to her if she’s at war. I’m not sure what sword she’s wielding, and I’d rather not end up on the wrong side of it.

“Take me to Solaria. If what you say is true, and she’s laying siege to a castle, she’ll need all the help she can get.”

Finn holds up his forearm, parallel to the stone floors, and I grip it. Letting him guide me to her.

Alice

Between Asmo, Eva, and I, we took back the tower and have split up to clear out the rest of the castle. The king had lots of visitors… Namely his princes and lords who have pledged fealty to him for a chance to win one of his daughter’s hands.

Eva’s beast took the East wing that houses her sisters. Apparently, they’re not allowed to attend the king’s addresses or leave it at all, for that matter. She thought, considering their gifts, it would be easier to convince them to join our side if the offer came from a familiar face.

Asmo took the West wing, where most of the king’s guard would be, for the same reasons. He believes he can convert them to our side with as little bloodshed as possible, while I cleared the South wing, where the ballroom full of people here to support the king are waiting. Now that my magic crackles at my fingertips, it should be easy.

Hell, it should be fun.
