I smile. "Night, animals, sweet dreams."

"You too," Carmen replies, waving the paw of a stuffed zebra.

I head to the living room and as I wait for Roland, I find myself thinking about my wet dream from the night before and feel my cheeks heat–and not from the steam coming from my cup of tea or even the heat of the ginger. No, I'm blushing because in my dream Roland was as good in bed as he's good-looking.

I shake my head and tell myself that, most likely, Roland is selfish and arrogant in bed.

Roland finally appears in the doorway. He's changed into a t-shirt and jeans, looking more relaxed than I've ever seen him.

"Feeling any better?" he asks, sitting down next to me on the couch. His knee brushes mine, and I can't help but notice how close we are.

"A little," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper. We lock eyes, and the air between us crackles with unspoken tension.

"Good," he says gruffly, his gaze dropping to my lips for a fraction of a second before flicking back up to meet mine. The moment stretches, neither of us willing to break the connection.

Then Roland seems to shake himself. "The recipe is really good. I'm having some myself. There are other recipes to help boost your immune system, but this one at least tastes nice." He laughs. "Gran was great with herbs, but not all herbs are, let's say, palatable."

I smile, half relieved the moment is over, half sad it's passed.

"Anyway, I have some more work to finish before tomorrow, so I'll leave you to it. I presume you have to get going soon?" He arches an eyebrow as he looks at his watch–a very expensive Rolex. He's clearly challenging me as I was in such a rush yesterday.

"Yeah," I nod. "I have class tonight, but it starts in an hour. I'll drink my tea and be going."

"All right, I hope you feel better."

And with that, he leaves the room. I pick up my cell. Damien has basketball practice tonight and Daniel's mom will pick them up–she's not working today–so he should be fine. But I'd like to check in to be sure, so I give him a call.

"Hey, sis," he replies.

"Hey, good day?"

"Sure."

"Daniel's mom still fine picking you up after practice?"

"Yeah, don't worry. Daniel is coming now, and we will walk there together, then she's fetching us."

"Great. See you at home. You know where to find the food."

"Yes. It's not like you ever put food anywhere else than the fridge."

I roll my eyes. Damien will soon be a teenager and I can't say I'm looking forward to it.

"Right. Have a good practice and see you later."

"See you."

We hang up and I get up to go to the door. While the tea is nice, my throat is still sore, and I'm starting to feel tired. Damn it. I hope I won't fall asleep in class.

I walk out into the hallway just as Roland comes out from the kitchen, holding a bowl of food in one hand and a MacBook in the other.

"You off?" he asks as he eyes me intently, scanning me from top to toe. What is it with his gaze? I feel naked every time he looks at me like that. He, on the other hand, is probably just trying to figure out if I'll be well enough to come to work tomorrow.

I swallow.

"Yeah," I reply and head for the door. "See you tomorrow."

"See you then," he says with a grin. I don't know what he's grinning about, but I still have the feeling he just thought my clothes off. And I kind of liked it.
