Daniella leans backin the seat, her right hand pressed to her forehead. The shock of finding out I saved her, combined with the attack she suffered from Giorgio and his men, appears too much for her to bear.

I don’t offer her any words of comfort. I focus solely on getting away from Giorgio’s club and taking her somewhere safe. Then she’ll have to answer my questions, and there are lots of them.

I look in the rear mirror and see no vehicle giving chase. What I did was risky, but it paid off. It’s like giving the middle finger to Giorgio again and again. I wonder how he looks now, huffing and squeezing a cigar between his fingers. For the second time, I’ve beaten him at his own game.

“Where are you taking me?” Daniella asks. Her voice is shaky.

I take my eyes off the road to peer at her. Her face is a mess, makeup smudged, lipstick smeared to her chin, but the essence of her beauty remains. If we weren’t in danger and she hadn’t betrayed me, I would have pulled over and kissed her. But she’s not the innocent woman she portrays.

“Where are you taking me?” she asks, louder this time. There’s a shimmer of anger in her eyes, but a flash of worry, too.

I chuckle and take my eyes off her, focusing on the road. “I just saved your ass. The least you can do is trust me. And I don’t think you’ve thanked me yet.”

“Thanks for saving me, Marcello.”

“Yeah, that’s more like it.” I step on the gas, heading toward Hillsworth. Since Giorgio tried to kill me, I haven’t been to my house. It’s been one hotel to the next for me.

Daniella leans back in her seat, lapsing into silence. I focus on getting us off the streets and to a safe place as quickly as possible. And once I do, I jump out of the car. Daniella gets out of the car shortly after, looking around.

“What are we doing here?”

“Hiding from Giorgio. Or do you wanna go home? He’ll find you and kill you. Might even kill your friend.”

“How do you know about my friend?” Her eyes widen, and oddly, it makes her look more attractive. I can’t stop thinking back to that dirty moment we shared in the bathroom and the sounds of her moans echoing off the walls.

I sigh and place a hand on her shoulder. “There’s a lot we need to talk about, but not here. Let’s get out of here before someone guns us down.”

Instinctively, she looks over her shoulder and sees we are in the open. Anyone can drive by and open fire. She pulls her jacket tighter around herself and nods. “Okay, let’s do it.”

I take her hand and lead her to the door. She steps aside while I remove the key from my pocket. In a blink, we’re inside the house, bathed by the yellow lights from the giant bulbs.

I lock the door and breathe easily. With the bulletproof doors, windows, and an underground escape tunnel, I can’t think of a more secure place to stay. This is one of the few properties I own that Giorgio doesn’t know about. From here, I’ll continue to map out strategies to bring him down.

“Thank you for saving me,” Daniella breathes. I notice her eyes darting from one corner of the room to her another, taking in her new environment.

This is the moment of truth. I point my pistol at her.

Daniella gasps and throws her hands up. Her lips tremble, and her eyes blink rapidly. Something about her makes me feel pity. But she doesn’t deserve the slightest dose of mercy.

She’s a cold, calculating bitch.

“Why did you drug me and clone my phone?”

A flicker of defiance crosses her face, but it vanishes when she notices my finger move to the trigger.

“Don’t shoot.”

“Then start talking!” I yell at her.

“Okay, I’ll talk. Just don’t shoot me.Please.” Tears begin to fill her reddened eyes and her lower lip quivers. Something stirs in my chest. I hate to see women cry. It all started with me watching mother cry after my father hit her when I was young. It makes me feel like a monster.

“All I need is an answer,” I say, softening my voice and slightly lowering the weapon. I’m really not sure I can handle a grown-ass woman crying in my house. “Tell me why you drugged me and stole details from my phone.”

“How can I explain when you’re waving a gun in my face?” she whimpers.

I lower the gun further and suddenly I’m on my back. I drop the gun to cup my throbbing dick, pain exploding behind my eyelids. “You fucking bitch.”

I roll on my side unable to breathe. I can't explain how Daniella kicked me in the balls and knocked me to the ground.
