Understanding washes over her and she bursts out laughing. “Got it.”

“You talk to the moms today?”

“Yes, they’ll have the guest lists ready by the weekend. Now we need to deal with the caterer.”

“I dealt with them today. They are on board. Anything you want.”

Her eyes sparkle. “Scale buildings, bust drug rings, take down cartels… Is there anything you can’t do?”

“I can’t get my fiancée to marry me before May.”

“Planning a wedding in twenty-one weeks is no easy feat.”

“It’s not the event that interests me. It’s the ink on my finger.”

She draws in a breath, her lips parting. “You don’t want a ring?”

“You want one, I’ll try it out. But ink is permanent.”

“Permanent.,” she repeats wispily. “Think it would cause a riot if we snuck off and screwed the whole deal?”

“I’d do it in a heartbeat if I thought you really wanted it.”

She pulls her lips through her teeth, the wheels turning. I’m ready to find a fucking JP until her face softens. “I want it all. Is that selfish? The immediate gratification and the big celebration.”

“Like I said, make the call.”

“I’ll think on it.”

She’s torn, which is expected. It took my dad to make me see that giving her the wedding was the right thing.

She has gone through hell and her family deserves this.

The greedy bastard in me wanted to protest, but he was right. She will get her day.

Even if it means waiting a few months.

I hold her stare, sifting my fingers through the ends of her hair. “You ready to load up Mack and Talon and head out?”

“Thank you, Ford, for giving me this family.”

My throat tightens and I drop my forehead to hers. “Thank you, Rowan, for making it whole.”

Her eyes grow misty, and I catch the first tear with my finger.

That night in the bar comes to mind. She spoke the same words—Thank you, Ford—while looking at me with the same appreciation. My chest tightens at what a fucking idiot I was.

“Feel like stopping by Tom’s after dinner?”

She studies me, understanding flickering in her gaze. “We can’t keep recreating our do-overs.”

“Not trying to go back in time. It’s about new memories.”

“I like that idea.”

“Get inside and get ready. I’ll be right there.”

She tips up, kissing me softly, before leaving me to my thoughts.
