I sit there for what feels like hours, but is more likely a few minutes. I don't really know how to feel--and I'm more confused than anything else. Was that his co-worker? What was she doing with his phone?

Then it all seems to click into place.

The voices in the background when I would call...the lack of communication, the extended time out of the States.

Is he cheating on me?

My phone rings and Steven's face pops up on the screen. I swipe up on the green phone right away, then put the phone to my ear.

"Hello?"

"Jenny, thank God," he says. "That was just my uh...co-worker. She had my phone and--"

"Are you cheating on me?"

He stops in his tracks. For a second, I think he's going to hang up, too.

"That was..."

I don't let him explain.

"Look, Steven," I tell him. "You should be honest with me, because I'm going to be honest with you. I'm calling to break off our engagement."

There's a long silence on the other end of the line, quiet enough that I think I can hear someone else whispering in the background. Probably that woman again--the one he claims is just a co-worker, but who I'm pretty sure is sleeping with him.

And then Steven finally speaks up, his voice soft and shaky. "Jenny, please, let's talk about this. I know we've had some issues, but--"

"No," I interrupt firmly. "It's not just about our issues. I kissed someone else at the wedding last night."

There's another pause, and I can hear his breathing hitch. "You...what? Who was it?"

"It doesn't matter," I say. "The point is, I realized in that moment that I'm not in love with you anymore."

"I don't..." Steven pauses. "Fine, if this is...if this is some ploy to get me to admit it, yes, I...I spent the night with someone, but it was a mistake--"

I let out a rough laugh. "Seriously? Steven...you're sleeping with someone else, I kissed someone else. It's over."

"Jenny, please don't do this," Steven pleads. "We can work through this. My parents love you--"

"It's not just about the kiss or the cheating, Steven," I repeat. "I don't love you. I'm not sure I ever did."

The line goes quiet again, and I can hear the sound of his breathing on the other end.

"Please," Steven says, his voice shaking. "Can we just...can we talk about this? In person?"

I pause, considering his request. But then I remember the woman who answered his phone, and the sinking feeling in my stomach returns.

"I don't think there's anything left to say, Steven," I tell him firmly. "I'll send the ring back to you when you're back in the States."

And with that, I hang up the phone.

I sit there on the bed for a few moments longer, staring blankly ahead. The realization that my engagement is over hits me like a ton of bricks, and I feel like I can't breathe.

But then I remember Finn, and the way I feel when I'm around him. I take a deep breath and pick up my phone, scrolling through my contacts until I find his name.

I hesitate for a moment, then hit call.

"Jenny?" Finn answers on the second ring.
