I don’t even have a home- Holy shit. I don’t have a home. Where am I going to live once Lisabell leaves?

My eyes flutter shut. I can feel a headache coming on. I was already feeling a little sick before all this. “Lisabell, I have to go. But I promise I’ll think about it,” I tell her.

She frowns. “It’s 10 a.m. where do you have to go?”

Oh, right. I haven’t told her.

“The Callahans’,” I say quietly.

Her eyes narrow. “You’re heading to my babysitting gig. Without me.”

“Xander invited me over.”

“Oh, really?Xanderinvited you. Look at you being all informal and friendly with a billionaire you were practically obsessed with before you even met.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Do you have feelings for him?”

I shake my head. “Lisabell, I barely know the man. We’re just friends.”

“Just friends? Alright. If you say so. Just be careful, Jules.”

“I will,” I tell her, getting to my feet. “I’ll see you later, okay?”

She nods and I leave the house. It’s a wonder I’m able to get to the sprawling mansion without getting into an accident. My mind is entirely preoccupied the entire time. I should be making a plan for my next course of action, but my mind is in a riot.

My easiest option would be going to L.A. with Lisabell, but I can’t ride on her coattails forever. She’s my friend, not my keeper.

Xander isn’t home when I arrive, but the twins are pretty excited to see me.

“Hey, guys,” I greet, crouching to hug Madison.

“Where’s Lisabell?” Mason questions from behind his sister.

“Um, she’s not coming. It’s just me,” I inform them. He nods, seemingly content with the answer.

I can’t help but wonder how they’re going to cope with the news that Lisabell’s moving away. They have a close bond with her.

“How was your week? We haven’t seen you since Monday.”

“Yeah, how’s the job hunting coming along?” Mason asks as we head toward the living room.

He even collects the bag of groceries in my hand. He’s such a gentleman. Mason and Madison may be a little spoiled, which is normal considering who their father is. But they’re also polite and well-mannered.

“It’s coming along terribly. I just went for the last interview the other day but there were no positions available for me.”

“How hard can it be to find a job as a chef?” Madison asks incredulously.

“You’d be surprised, Mads,” I mutter. “Anyway, how was your week? Mase, any improvements?”

I made the little guy promise to spend more time around his peers. He’s to have at least one conversation with someone that’s not his sister every day.

“It was alright,” he says vaguely. I notice a blush on his cheeks.

His twin giggles. “Mason talked to a girl,” Madison sings.

“A girl, huh?” Not what I had in mind when I told him to talk to his peers but hey, a crush works. “And who is this girl?”
