My eyebrows practically jump off of my face once he finishes that statement.

“So you can change,” Xander quickly clarifies.

“Right.” I nod. “I’ll come with you.”

Kill me now.

Xander and I headed up the flight of stairs and reach the room we met in. The one that contains his dead’s wife’s paintings. I look up at him for some shadow of recognition but he walks past the room like it’s invisible. There’s nothing that gives away how he feels about it in his expression.

We finally reach a large brown oak door and Xander pushes it open to reveal the biggest bedroom I’ve ever been in.

“Damn, this room is larger than my last apartment.”

It’s painted a dark blue and filled mostly with dark furniture. There’s a walk-in closet on the side and there’s another door that I’m guessing leads into the bathroom.

Xander doesn’t comment on what I said. He heads to the closet and after a few minutes, he returns holding a small bag, labeled Victoria’s Secret. He hands it over and I pull out the article of clothing inside. It’s a pretty white bikini. It also seems brand new. My eyes widen and I stare up at Xander.

“Why do you have a bikini in your closet?” I question.

He clears his throat. “It was Kathy’s. Or, at least, it was meant to be.”

Kathy.

His wife. He’s giving me clothing that belonged to his dead wife.

“She never wore it,” Xander informs me. “I never got to give it to her before she-passed.”

“Oh,” I say because I have no fucking clue what to say in this moment.

“Xander, I don’t think I can wear this,” I tell him.

“Of course you can. It’s never been worn and I want you to.”

I bite my bottom lip. This is such an uncomfortable situation. I can’t help feeling like I’m taking away something that belonged to a dead woman.

“Juliette,” Xander says, pulling me out of my thoughts, “I promise you it’s fine.”

I take a deep breath and nod. “Okay. I’ll put it on.”

He gives me a small smile before directing me to the bathroom so I can change. A problem soon arises after I’ve put on the bikini top. My breasts are a little larger than the person this bikini was purchased for. It’s a cup too small for me.

My eyes flutter shut in frustration. Could this get any worse? I debate putting on my clothes again or walking out like this. Problem is, my breasts are very much on display and this is anything but decent. I could probably pull it off, but if anyone saw me like this, they would definitely think I was trying to seduce Xander.

I decided to work up some courage and tell him about the situation.

“Xander,” I call, poking my head through the bathroom door. He’s on his bed, looking at something on his phone. He looks up at me and raises an eyebrow.

“What’s wrong?”

“The bikini’s a little small,” I tell him.

I see the realization dawn on his brown eyes. “Shit. She was a little smaller than you. I’m sorry, Juliette.”

“It’s fine. I’ll probably just wear my regular clothes.”

“But you need to swim.”

“Right, but I can’t exactly be walking around your house looking like this. It’s better anyway, I’ve been nervous about being in the water all day. Plus, it’s really cold out.”
