“Ash, I need to speak to Juliette for a moment,” Xander states.

Asher nods before looking at me. “You seriously have to tell me how you ended up working as a nanny for Alexander Callahan.”

“I will,” I promise as he walks away.

He places a hand on Xander’s shoulder before leaving the both of us alone. Xander stalks toward me. His eyes burn a hole right into me and warmth spreads down into the depths of my bones. He looks like a predator walking toward his prey, so much raw masculinity, so much darkness in his brown eyes and he’s mine.

“You’re staring at me like you’re just seeing me for the first time,” he says gruffly.

“Maybe I’m just realizing how much you actually keep hidden and how much I still don’t know about you,” I retort.

He falters then reaches over and brushes a thumb over my cheek.

“I’m sorry about earlier, baby. I never should have said something so dumb.”

His insinuation that I had approached him on purpose hurt, but I’m a big girl and I can handle that. That’s not our biggest problem here.

“Everyone’s talking about us. In the city,” I clarify. “My mom just called, happy that I managed to bag a billionaire.”

Xander curses. “I’ll make sure to block any articles from being published. Asher can’t know,” he states.

I nod slowly. “He told me he loves me.”

Xander’s hand falls away from my face and he stares at me. “And what did you say?” he asks, his jaw clenched.

“What do you think I said?”

“That’s the thing, Juliette,” he replies sadly. “I don’t know. Because a part of me is afraid you’ll finally see the darkness in me and then you’ll leave.”

“I see the darkness in you,” I tell him, moving closer. “And I’m not going to leave. It’s you and me, Xander, no one else.”

His eyes burn with a fierceness that takes my breath away.

“No one else,” he repeats as his mouth finds mine and he kisses me so hard I forget to breathe.

His tongue pushes into my mouth and his lips bruise me as I wind my arms around his neck.

“Promise me this isn’t going to end,” he whispers, pulling away from me.

My heart thunders at the weight of that promise. I’m already in so deep.

“Promise you won’t break my heart,” I return.

He grins. “It’s never easy with you, Juliette Landers.”

“I’m serious.”

He lets out a soft breath. “I promise I won’t break your heart, Firefly.”

“And I promise this isn’t going to end.”

I really hope we’re not both making promises we can’t keep.

His hand fists in my hair and I moan as he kisses me again. He somehow lifts me into his arms without breaking contact with my lips. I’m not sure when we get to my bedroom, my mind snagging onto the bed for a minute before Xander pushes me against the wall. I look into his eyes, heat curling it’s way through my body and lighting me up with desire.

I catch his mouth with mine and shift my hands to start unhooking the buttons of his shirt. I feel him grinning as I kiss him harder and he drives me back against the wall, shoving his knee between my thighs. I push his shirt off his broad shoulders and stare at his muscular torso for a moment while running my hands down his chest.

Xander drives me back against the wall more firmly, kissing me again, and I devour the taste of him, his hands sliding over my breasts through the material of my dress, making my nipples harden in response. I place my palms on his chest and push him back and his eyes lit up with a fierce kind of fire as I pull on the knot at the back of my dress that holds it together. It falls from my body like a spill of oil and pools at my feet, leaving me in nothing but my black panties.
