I shook my head. “I don’t think that is right.”

“Are you telling me I am wrong, as your Alpha?”

It felt like it was a loaded question. I didn’t want to say that he was wrong, but I was pretty sure he was. “Why would you even say something like that?”

“Because it’s true, and it’s a Dark Rider. We need to talk about how we’re going to induct you into the pack, what with what you’ve got going on with Patrick. Is he coming back? Are you going there?” Sterling asked.

I pressed my lips together. I was still trying to wrap my head around the part where I was pregnant and it was a Dark Rider. I didn’t know if it was Eddie’s or Calvin’s, but I didn’t really care. Did it really matter at this point which one was the father? I wanted to know how he knew it was a Night Rider, but I was too happy with the information to let details like the why and how bother me.

“I’m never going back to the Bransom Country pack. I have told Patrick that and he knows there is no way that’s going to change. If you let me stay, I would love to be here. This is where my home is now,” I finally said.

Sterling nodded. “There’s going to be a ceremony soon to take care of you being an outsider.”

“I don’t feel like an outsider.”

“Good, you’re not. Got to make it official, though. Some things just need to be done right.”

I agreed, trying not to show the emotions I was feeling. “Thank you, Sterling, for everything, for helping me. I didn’t mean to bring this all on you, but I’m so grateful that you helped me. You didn’t have to, but you did.”

“You were always meant to be here, Eliza. That’s how I have come to see it. I had to help you. You took two of my best members and made them fall for you. If Eddie and Calvin weren’t so sure of your character, you wouldn’t be here. I’m glad we took a chance on you. It has paid off.”

To hear him say that was probably the greatest thing I’d ever heard. I left Sterling with a smile on my face, until I realized I had to go tell Calvin and Eddie that I was pregnant. I didn’t know what they were going to think. I didn’t even know whatIwas supposed to think. I was pregnant and I was going to be a Night Rider. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. There was so much to look forward to. Everything was different now, better, and for the first time ever, I looked forward to what the future held.

Hope may be one of the most powerful, yet terrifying feelings I’d ever had.
