My eyes widened. This was it. Actual proof that it wasn’t him. “He knows how to do that. We did it in the dreamscape.”

“He wants her magic?” Charlie asked.

“But not from me,” I added.

We exchanged a panicked look.

“Shit,” he said.

“Shit,” I repeated.

And we raced back down the hill, leaving Daithi and Savida in the dust.

We were breathless as we threw the door open wide to see Clawdia with her legs spread on the sofa and Baelen lapping at her pussy like it was his last meal. The door smacked into the wall, and Clawdia screamed and yanked her legs up to cover herself.

Baelen’s head snapped toward us, and the look in his eyes made me step back.He looks feral.Blood smeared around his mouth, his eyes red and bright.

“What the fuck is happening right now?” Charlie shouted.

“Why did you charge in like that?” Clawdia squeaked as she kneeled on the sofa, and her expression changed from shocked to concerned. “Is something wrong?”

“Clawdia, get away from him,” I whispered, unable to tear my eyes away from Baelen.

He hissed, snarled, and showed off his bloody fangs, yet Clawdia patted his head like she was soothing an animal and asked, “What’s happening?”

“Why is he like that?” Charlie’s lip curled.

Baelen, despite his feral state, seemed to understand Charlie’s derision and responded by standing up and growling at him.

Clawdia rose behind him and caressed his back, imploring us with her eyes as she tried to pacify him. “Baelen, calm down. It’s okay.”

I held Charlie back with an arm across his chest. “Stop. Don’t move.”

“What the fuck?” Charlie flinched away from my beastly soul mate as he stepped in front of Clawdia and bared his teeth. “Get away from her!” Charlie shouted.

“Why are you shouting? Just calm down and explain. You’re scaring him.” Clawdia tried to get around Baelen, but he held her behind him as though protecting her from us.

“Youshould be scared ofhim. Now get away.” Charlie lunged around me and grasped her arm.

Baelen’s eyes flared, and preempting his movement, I stood between them so Baelen charged into my chest, almost bouncing away. I swallowed, his red eyes giving me a flicker of fear before I forced him back.

Charlie shouted a phrase, and suddenly a cage flared around Baelen. His eyes widened, and he roared as he charged into the bars that now held him captive.

“What are you doing? Let him go!” Clawdia yelled and fought Charlie’s hold on her arm.

Charlie let her go and sagged onto the sofa with his head in his hands. “Oh my fucking god. I’m so sick of this day.”

“How did you do that?” My mouth was agape. Seeing Charlie use magic somehow made it everything we knew, more real. He was a witch. He had magic. He was also part … Drakorian.

Charlie sighed but answered my question. “I fucking hate learning by reading, but after spending all day looking at pages, something must have gone in.”

Clawdia stomped her foot, and we looked over to see her hand on the cage, her eyes flared dangerously. She whispered darkly, “Someone explain what is happening right now.”

Baelen rested his forehead on a glowing bar, his shoulders heaving, his eyes closed.

“He’s possessed,” I told Clawdia before she began shouting.

She paused, her hand falling back for him. “Possessed?”
