Very injured, then.

I suppressed a shiver of fear and told myself,Don’t let this fate make you afraid. You have suffered before and been saved. Keep faith.

“What does the place look like?” Charlie asked.

“It was dark. I cannot see what precautions they have taken to hold him, but there are humans in front of you, taunting you. They hold the keys to your cage.”

“Humans? How can you tell?”

“They call him a freak.”

Clawdia, Charlie, and I exchanged a grim look.

Hunters?

CHAPTER4

CHARLIE

“Okay, this isn’t the end of the world. Forewarned is forearmed,” I state cheerfully.

Although the vision worried me, it was clear I wasn’t nearly as worried as maybe I should be.

Alone. Imprisoned. And injured. It wasn’t the best fate, but it also wasn’t the worst. Daithi didn’t know how long he’d be there, but he hadn’t seen him dead.

Zaide might have freaked out in the cave cage, but he didn’t know he’d be affected that way. Now he did, and now he’d prepare himself. I could see it in the set of his jaw. He wasn’t going to fall to pieces.

He used to be a titan slave, for fuck’s sake. He’s lived through worse than teasing from a bunch of humans.

If Zaide was hiding his fear, Clawdia was demonstrating enough for both of them. She shook in my arms, her breathing uneven against my bare chest, and gripped Zaide’s hand like a lifeline.

Daithi glared. “I’m sure you said that before, Charlie, when it was Savida’s suffering I saw.”

“And look how that turned out. Savida is right here.” I waved my arms at Savida, who gave me a small smile but continued to plump Daithi’s pillows and offer him water.

“You aren’t usually so positive,” Clawdia noted and looked up at me with narrowed eyes.

“Well, someone needs to be. We don’t know when this will happen, or why, or who, but we can plan to make sure we can get him back.”

Clawdia swallows. “There’s nothing we can do to stop it?”

“My visions always come to pass,” Daithi answered simply.

Clawdia choked on a sob and left my arms to hug Zaide. He was still frozen, so he didn’t move to embrace her.

“But you saw the place. You know where he’ll be?” I asked.

Daithi said, “Yes.”

“So, you can portal there?”

“As I said, I can’t see what protections his captors might have in place—”

“That isn’t what I asked.”

I knew what he was doing. He doesn’t want to promise to go and get him if it puts Savida at risk. But I wasn’t going to let him get away with that. Zaide needed hope to get him through.

Daithi closed his eyes. “I can portal there now that I have seen it. But I can’t guarantee he’ll be there when we do. I don’t know when this will happen.”
