I didn’t flinch since his fist felt like a rock bouncing off my muscles and raised a patient brow as I asked, “Why do I deserve to be assaulted on sight?”

“Because you and Clawdia decided to get your freak on and gave me a boner at literally the worst time,” he hissed, despite no one being around.

I laughed loudly.I hadn’t considered that Charlie would feel our pleasure, and from the look on his face, he didn’t enjoy the experience as much as I had. My chuckles died down, but when I saw his snarling face, I started laughing again.

“Would you stop?” he exclaimed. “It was so traumatic. My dick may never recover.”

“I’m sure that’s not true. Your dick has always worked.” I laughed again.

“Just because my first erection wasn’t at the sight of my true love doesn’t mean I’m hard all the time. And I don’t want to be.”

“You’ve had more erections than I’ve had hot meals,” I retorted.

His mouth dropped open. “Oh, God, that’s depressing. What a way to bring down the mood, titan.”

I chuckled again and nudged his shoulder. “Why was your erection at the worst time, I thought you were in here learning.” He glared at me, and my eyes widened as a thought crossed my mind. “In front of your mother?”

“Worse.” He gagged. “In front of Karin.”

I bit my lip to stop from laughing. “You should have blocked us out.”

“I tried. What the fuck were you doing?”

“I think you know how it works, Charlie, you gave us a lesson.” I gave him a sly smile. “We were embracing our wild side.”

“You have a wild side?” he asked, crossing his arms and pouting.

“Are you upset?” I asked.

He sighed and leaned against a shelf. “I’m jealous as fuck. I’ve been tortured here, and you guys have been experimenting without me. And I was the one who got a bowl almost dropped on my head. A blow job would be the least she could do.”

I smirked. “She’ll apologize properly to you, I’m sure.”

He waggled his brow. “Was that what you got? An apology?”

“We worked out a lot of things that had been bothering us,” I told him blankly.

He narrowed his eyes. “You’re being cryptic, and I just want to ask more questions.”

“I’m not going to tell you more.”

“And I even got you a present.” He picked a book up off the desk and slapped me across the chest with it. “Even got the gay sex you need to get started with Baelen.” All my humor faded, but I held the book in place as Charlie asked, “Wait, was Baelen involved?”

“No.” I stepped back and rubbed my head. “That won’t be happening any time soon. And that’s why I’m up here. I want to search for things that could cause Baelen’s strangeness.”

“She’s convinced you?”

I shook my head and let my eyes tell Charlie how serious I was about this. “He convinced me. He only wants to consummate the bond with Clawdia. The way he spoke. The things he said. He was …”

“What?”

There was only one way to say it in a way he’d understand. “A complete arsehole.”

A slow smile crept across his face. “Is it wrong to be proud that you just said that?”

I nodded, my lips twitching. “It’s strange.”

“You know, they say the first sign of a relationship is when you start sounding like each other.”
