The banner hanging across the bar said, “Welcome Home,” and seeing that made his heart skip a beat. For the first time since his release, he thought that maybe everything wasn’t so bad after all. This was his home. These people were home. From the looks of it, they were all happy to have him back.

Len came walking up to him and he couldn’t keep from smiling.

“Hi, Mama.”

Len shook her head, tears glistening in her eyes.

“You stupid idiot,” she said before wrapping him in her arms.

He laughed and hugged her close.

Zero

When he walked into the clubhouse, he couldn’t stop his lips from twitching. He’d known about the surprise party, of course. Gabe texted him late last night to let him know. King had texted him too. About the cut. He’d figured Jack wouldn’t take it well but not because the cut had been his.

He’d almost blown it when he’d told Jack he’d see him at the clubhouse. Jack was going because King was supposed to put him to work but he should’ve been working with Skinner and the kids at the gym. Skinner had told him to take the day and celebrate with the others, though.

He’d crossed his fingers and hoped Jack hadn’t gotten suspicious because he knew being welcomed home like this was probably what Jack needed. At least it’s what he would’ve wanted himself back when he got out.

He headed to the bar to grab a soda. Most of the others were already drinking and, from the looks of Rooster and Chain, some quite heavily at that.

He’d only ever had a couple of beers himself, figuring that drinking was a surefire way to lose control, and if there was one thing he needed in his life, it was control. He’d worked too hard to get where he was to lose it all because he lacked inhibitions.

Laughter had him looking over his shoulder, his eyes landing on Jack. He was holding a beer, clinking it against Jet’s before bringing it to his lips.

He knew he was watching too long, too intently, as Jack’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and a drop of beer ran down the corner of his mouth. He just couldn’t help it.

What was that about lacking inhibitions?

He didn’t think he even had any where Jack was concerned.

It was starting to get ridiculous. He shouldn’t be this affected by him. He’d thought it was because Jack had just been released but he didn’t think that was why anymore.

Jack was complex. He had a whole lot of layers. A lot of secrets.

For some reason that was drawing him in.

Also, it didn’t help that Jack was probably the sexiest man alive. Sully and him may be twins but he’d never looked at Sully the way he did Jack. They looked alike but somehow, they also didn’t. Jack’s hair was a bit darker. Sully’s nose was crooked after what he suspected was quite a hard hit. Jack’s eyes had more gold flecks in them. Then there were Jack’s tattoos. Sully didn’t have any that he knew of. Just the piercing.

Speaking of Sully, he watched as the man stepped in front of Jack and motioned with a tilt of his head. They headed upstairs and he didn’t like the look on either of their faces. They both looked pissed. Not exactly what he’d expected considering what he’d been told about the two of them. Happy-go-lucky was the words Jet had used.

Jack had reacted in the car when he’d mentioned Ash’s scan and he’d certainly reacted at Jet and Walker’s yesterday. He’d tried to hide it both times.

Something was going on there and for some reason, he didn’t think it was a jealousy thing. Not an Ash-taking-his-twin-away thing.

He’d be lying if he said he was surprised to find himself following them upstairs.

“I’m not doing this with you,” Jack said, a growl in his voice.

When he rounded the corner, his steps faltered. The brothers were standing in the hallway, facing each other, Sully with his back to Zero.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Sully snapped.

Jack’s expression turned thunderous and Zero feared for Sully. Not physically. While Jack hadn’t had a problem manhandling him, he doubted he’d get physical with his brother. No, Sully was about to get his ass handed to him verbally.

“You’re mad at me?” Jack’s eyes flashed. “You have thrown me out of my own fucking house. You have replaced all my things with baby stuff. You have erased me from your fucking life. But no, I’m the problem.”

Zero’s heart skipped a beat.
