“Are you serious? Do you know how fucking mad I am at you?”

Sully’s brows snapped together. “Me?”

“Yeah. You.” Zero shook his head and lowered his voice. “I barely know Jack and even I can tell that he’s suffering. That he went through something inside that was bad enough for him to cut all contact with the one person he loves the most.”

Sully stared at him, his lips parting slowly as understanding seemed to finally dawn on him.

“Why the fuck do you always have to interfere?” Jack snapped from behind them.

Zero jerked his head toward Jack, words escaping him.

Jack looked pissed. As always. The only time he didn’t look like that was when… Yeeeah, probably best not to think about that.

He swallowed hard, feeling heat spread in his cheeks. Jack’s gaze dropped to his throat, then lifted to Zero’s eyes and despite the anger, there was a flash of lust in his eyes.

“Actually, he was telling me what an idiot I am,” Sully said.

Jack turned his gaze slowly from Zero to his brother.

“How is that news?”

For the first time, he saw Sully crack a smile around Jack.

“You calling me an idiot?”

Jack raised a brow and said, “Obviously.”

“We need to talk,” Sully said, turning serious.

Jack looked like he wanted to object but instead, he sighed and said, “After work.”

Sully lit up like a damn firecracker. “You got your job back?”

“Yeah.”

Sully wrapped an arm around Jack’s shoulders and pulled him toward his bay while saying, “I can’t believe Len took pity on you.”

“Fuck off,” Jack grumbled and pushed Sully away only to grab him and give him a noogie.

Zero watched them with a small smile on his lips. Looked like there was hope for them after all.

Chapter Seven

Jack

HE WAS nervous. More than nervous. In fact, he was pretty sure he was about to have a heart attack. He’d never looked up at his own house before and considered running for the hills.

He knew Ash wasn’t home, but he still felt weird about being there after the last time. Hell, he felt weird about being alone with his brother.

He was gonna have to come clean and hope that Sully understood.

Sully had a lot of groveling to do himself so if he was lucky, it evened out. Though how having a baby without telling him could measure up to everything with Gillies, he didn’t know.

They headed to the front door and once Sully unlocked and opened it, he followed him inside.

He took off his cut and just barely remembered to treat it with as much respect as he would his old one. Being demoted to prospect was his own fault.

He hung up the cut, then took off his boots and straightened. He stood there awkwardly while Sully stared at him for so long he started to get all jittery and sweaty.
