When he’d made the call, Gillies had started out happy and flirtatious but that had ended pretty fucking quickly once Jack had managed to get a word in.

Jack stopped in front of him and said, “You used me as the fall guy so your actual snitch wouldn’t get caught, so yeah, you owe me.”

Gillies snapped his mouth shut, the look on his face telling Jack he’d been right.

“Why do you need me here?”

“I already told them I’d be coming to see Ricky. I need you there to make sure he tells the truth,” Jack said, a bite to his voice.

Gillies didn’t say a word, just turned on his heels and took off toward the entrance. Jack followed, watching the man’s every move. He didn’t want any surprises.

He’d never been on this side of the prison before so he let Gillies take the lead. They went through a metal detector and Gillies handed over his gun which made him try not to smile.

As they walked further, he got a few glowers and surprised glances from the officers they met on the way, but he ignored them.

“Detective,” one of the COs said with a nod. “The prisoner’s ready for you in room two.”

“Thank you,” Gillies said.

Jack walked ahead of Gillies and when they reached the room, he waited for the buzz to let them in and pushed open the door. The man sitting behind the table, hands cuffed to it, looked up at him, his dark eyes chilling.

The door closed behind Gillies with a click and he knew the second Gillies realized it wasn’t Ricky in the room with them from his sharp inhale.

“What the fuck, Jack?” Gillies hissed.

Dmitri Zevtrof leaned back in his chair, a wicked smile spreading on his face.

Jack ignored Gillies and put all his attention on Dmitri.

“I have to say, Jack, this is quite a bold move. Stupid, but bold,” Dmitri said.

“We’ll see,” Jack said and stepped closer.

“There’s no one here to protect you.” Dmitri stood, the handcuffs that clearly hadn’t been closed falling off his wrists. “You’ve got no friends left, Jack.”

“Fuck,” Gillies hissed and grabbed the doorhandle to no avail. His frantic knocking wasn’t going to help him either.

“I don’t need protection.”

Dmitri narrowed his eyes at him. Jack wasn’t nervous. He wasn’t afraid. Dmitri saw that and in turn, it made the man tense up which wasn’t good. He was well known for his bad temper, after all.

“I’m not the snitch, Dmitri.”

Dmitri’s booming laugh would’ve made him flinch before. Now it just made him impatient.

“Why do you think I brought him,” he said with a tilt of his head toward Gillies.

“Have you lost your god damned mind,” Gillies snapped, grabbing Jack by the back of his shirt.

Jack glared at him while he pulled away.

“Your death doesn’t benefit him,” Jack said, then turned back to Dmitri. “I know who the snitch is. Gillies is here to confirm it.”

“Like hell, I will.”

Dmitri chuckled and cocked his head to the side, staring at Gillies with dark eyes. “He’s right. I won’t kill you. But I will hurt you.”

“Call your men off my family and I’ll give you the snitch,” Jack said.
