“At least that part’s over and done now,” Jack said.

“Yeah,” Zero said with a sigh. “All we have left are the assholes who tried to blow me up.”

Chapter Fifteen

Zero

JACK WAS staring at him. Even though his eyes were closed, and the room was dark and silent, he knew Jack was watching him. He could feel the man’s gaze on him, and that always seemed to make him smile.

Sometimes he wasn’t sure Jack really wanted to be with him and then there were other times such as this when he didn’t have a single doubt.

The past week had been hard and not just because he was recovering from a concussion. They still didn’t know who’d planted that bomb. Well, Jack had a theory but so far, he hadn’t been able to confirm it. A part of him hoped he was wrong, for Jack’s sake, because he knew it would hurt him if he was right.

“You know you’re not supposed to sleep more than usual, right?”

While his lips rose at the corners, he quirked an eye open. Jack was in the armchair, leaning forward, his arms resting on his knees. His eyes were trained on him, his brow raised.

He sat up and let the sheet fall down and pool around his waist, not in the least surprised when Jack’s gaze dropped to it.

They’d only cuddled and kissed for a whole week and he knew he wasn’t the only one who was frustrated.

“You know,” he said, raising a brow at Jack, “I’m pretty sure the doctor said I could return to doing normal activities after one week.”

Jack’s lips spread in a playful smile.

“What activities do you have in mind?”

“Ones that have you getting on this bed and kissing me.”

Jack’s chuckle was light, and he loved hearing it. He’d worked hard to get it back to that stage. It hadn’t been easy. Jack’s guilt ran deep. He still blamed himself for the bomb which obviously wasn’t his fault but he got why Jack thought it was. He probably understood better than anyone else.

His lips parted as he watched Jack walk closer. He was dressed in dark jeans and a T-shirt with their boxing gym’s logo on it. He’d never looked sexier. Granted, he got hotter each time he looked at him so that wasn’t really surprising.

Jack crawled onto the bed and he hurried to kick the sheet aside because he wouldn’t put it past Jack to keep it between them just to drive him crazy.

Jack straddled his thighs and having the man this close set his blood on fire. Lust spread through his body so fast it left him feeling lightheaded. Or maybe that was just the concussion though he doubted it.

Jack was looking down at him with a twinkle in his eyes. He swallowed back a groan because he knew Jack might very well torture him for a while before giving him that orgasm he so craved.

He was pushed back onto the bed.

“What was it you said?” Jack tapped his fingers against his lips. “On the bed and then what?”

A groan escaped him. “Stop teasing me. Please. I need you to touch me. I’ve missed your hands on me so fucking much.”

Jack’s expression changed, the playful look replaced by a serious one.

“I’ve missed it, too.”

Jack leaned down, fingers threading through Zero’s hair.

“I thought I’d lost you,” Jack said while nuzzling the spot under his ear.

“Never.”

Jack’s lips teased him as they brushed across his neck.

“I thought I was to blame.”
