“What? When?”

“A month ago, I think,” she said, her voice quiet. “I hated that you were going through that for me. I just wanted… I just…”

“What happened?”

She hadn’t been to see him, so something must’ve stopped her.

“I had to change buses, and I had to wait a while, so I went to get food.”

“You were seen.”

Helena’s lips quivered. “I never got on that bus.”

Which meant that Benny had her for a month. He’d been pumping her full of drugs and had abused her the whole time, too, no doubt.

“I didn’t give you up,” she whispered.

He pulled her closer and shushed her.

“He tried to make me, but I wouldn’t. He found out who you were some other way. I heard him laugh one day and then he told me you were finished. That he’d sent someone to get you. I was so scared,” she said and held on tight to the arm he had across her chest, her eyes shimmering with tears. “I thought, any second, he was gonna show up with you and kill you in front of me.”

She hid her face in his shirt and sobbed while he stroked her hair and tried not to lose his shit for her sake. He would be strong for her. He had to.

“He’s gone now. He will never hurt you again. Ever.”

When they got to the club, Nash and Saint were waiting for them outside. Someone must’ve called them knowing Helena needed help.

He parked the car and went to open the door for Jack and Helena, helping Jack get her out.

Nash and Saint walked over, a curious look on Nash’s face. Not that he should be surprised by that. Nash was an old man, not a member, so he likely only knew that there was someone who needed him.

“Let’s get her inside,” Saint said and put an arm around Helena.

Jack’s expression was rather grim and he knew it was because he hated letting her out of his sight.

Nash noticed it too and put a hand on his arm.

“I’m gonna take good care of her. I promise.”

Jack gave him a curt nod and then Nash was off after Saint and Helena.

He inched closer to Jack but didn’t reach for him despite how much he wanted to. He knew he wasn’t the only one who was fucked up after what happened.

Seeing Jack on the ground with Benny standing over him had been worse than anything he could have imagined. The fear he’d felt was still clinging to him.

“Jack?” he asked hesitantly.

Jack turned and reached for him, so he stepped right into his arms. He let out a shaky breath.

He had Jack’s arms wrapped around him and yet he still wasn’t convinced this wasn’t a dream. That they were finally out of danger.

There was still the rest of Benny’s gang, though he doubted they would want to wrestle with the Kings. Either way, he knew King and the others would handle it.

“What’s gonna happen to Helena?”

Jack pulled back, a sad smile on his lips. “I’m getting her into rehab and once she’s clean, I guess we’ll see.”
