I hadn’t even told Maggie my darkest secrets yet. There was no way I was going to tell Greyson fucking Durant. “I don’t trust him.”

She jumped to his defense. “Grey is a good man. People think he’s Colton, but he’s not. He’s nothing like that. If you knew him like I do, you’d know that he is extremely kind and giving. He wouldn’t hurt you.”

Colton Grimaldi was the character Grey played on Devious. I knew exactly what kind of person Colton was because I’d seen every single episode. Sometime after I’d first met Grey, I’d watched an episode. And then another. Until I was hooked on the stupid show.

As crazy as my life seemed to the outside world, there was a lot of downtime. A lot of lonely time. When we were on tour, I spent hours and hours on the road going from one city to the next. Usually, I filled that time playing guitar and writing new songs. I wasn’t big into video games like the other guys in the band. When they got busy playing, I’d retreat to the back of the bus and watch Devious.

I didn’t really answer her, just grunted a bit.

She traced a finger down my chest. “When I first met him, I expected an arrogant asshole. Like Colton Grimaldi. He was so freaking nice that I thought he had to be acting. Nobody is really that kind. It took me a long time to realize that Grey really was a kind and caring person. That’s the real him.”

I scoffed in disbelief. “He wasn’t exactly meek and kind last night. He was a bossy asshole.”

“He’s not meek in bed.” Even under the warm water, I could see her cheeks redden. “He takes charge in bed. And I really like that.”

She reached for the shampoo, beginning to wash my hair with gentle strokes. “He’s a good guy, Ghost. He would never hurt you.”

I closed my eyes, leaning into her touch. “He hurt you.”

“No, he was trying to be honest with me, and I rejected it.” She gently pushed me back under the stream of water to rinse out my hair.

I reached for the soap. “Let me soap you up before we run out of hot water.”

She closed her eyes and laid her head back, feeling my hands glide the scented lather over every square inch of her body. I wasn’t against being devious if it meant getting what I wanted, so I made sure to give extra attention to those areas that made her moan until she was writhing with the need to be touched by me.

Water cascaded down Remi’s body as I rinsed off the soap, her wet hair clinging to her face as we finished our shower. When we stepped out, the steam from the hot water filled the room, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. As she reached for a towel, I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by feelings of lust for her. My desire for Remi was a fire that refused to be extinguished.

“Come on,” she whispered, sensing my need, and led me into the bedroom. Our bodies moved in unison, our lips meeting as if they were magnets drawn together. We fell onto the bed, tangled in each other’s limbs, our passion consuming us like an inferno.

Afterward, we lay side by side, our breaths heavy and labored. I was still amazed that sex with Remi could feel so different — so much brighter and more vibrant than anything else — like nothing I’d ever experienced before. The heat radiating from her body was a reminder of the intensity of our connection.

She shifted beside me, propping herself up on one elbow and running her fingers through my tousled hair. Her eyes locked onto mine, filled with a mix of desire and determination. “I have to get up. I need to get ready to meet Greyson.”

“Greyson shouldn’t have sent you to talk to me.” I swallowed hard, trying to push down the jealousy that bubbled up inside of me. “Will he be angry we had sex?”

“No.” She paused for a moment, her eyes searching mine. “He won’t be angry. He knows how complicated things are between the three of us.”

Even as we lay in a tangle of sweat-soaked sheets with the scent of our passion thick in the air, I had to ask the question that was burning in my mind. “Are you going to have sex with him?”

“Are you going to judge me if I do?” Remi challenged, her eyes narrowing slightly.

“No, I’m just jealous,” I admitted, the raw truth stinging my pride.

She reached out to trace her fingers along my jawline as if trying to put my mind at ease.“We’re going to meet up and spend the day together before he goes back to L.A. He’s flying back tonight; he has filming early in the morning.”

“The bus leaves in a couple of hours,” I murmured, staring at the ceiling, feeling the weight of our situation.

As Remi’s fingers lingered on my jaw, her touch sent a shiver down my spine. “I’m going to catch up with the bus tonight. You should come with me. Then we could all talk.” Remi suggested, her gaze filled with hope.

“I can’t,” I replied, my voice heavy with emotion.

A silence fell over us, the unspoken words hanging thick in the air. I desperately wanted to let go of my insecurities and follow her, to be a part of the conversation between Greyson and Remi. But the darkness within me held me back, a constant reminder of the broken man I was. This moment, this connection with Remi, was something I could cherish, but it couldn’t erase the scars of my past.

She ran her fingertips over my lips. “I know you have a lot going on in your head, but please don’t let your past stop you from trying. We can still figure this out.”

“Can we?” I questioned, my voice barely more than a whisper. “Or are we just deluding ourselves?”

“Maybe.” She sighed, pressing her lips to mine in a soft, tender kiss. “But isn’t it worth trying?”
