Page 20 of Fragile Lies

His hands grip her hips like they belong there, while I grip the empty glass, ready to crush it in my palm. Leaning against the leather lounger at the Chelsea rooftop, I stare at her body as she moves her hips too damn close to his dick. I want to rip his arms clean off, then burn them so that even the memory of her body on his fingertips disappears.

I roll up my sleeves and continue to observe the two of them together. My teeth rattle under my clenched jaw. She keeps eyeing me but averts her gaze every time I catch her. Her blond hair glows under the dim lighting. Her tight baby blue dress drapes along her small, curvy body, leaving nothing to the imagination.Goddamn, I want her so bad.If goddesses were real, she’d be mine.

I know I shouldn’t want her. I know I can’t let my darkness take her too, but I can’t help myself. With her, every ounce of rational thought is gone, all that remains is an animalistic need to touch her, to taste her lips, to hear her tell me over and over how much she wants me. Blood rushes to my cock, steeling it at the memory of us together.

Fuck this!I can’t keep doing this shit to myself. She’s made things clear between us and I know she’s probably right. She deserves something real, something I can never give her. I get up, heading for the bar, weaving through crowds of people either dancing or hanging around. I order a shot of Jack then another. She’s just a girl, that’s all.But as I turn around and watch her dance with someone who isn’t me, I know that’s a lie. One and done. It’s never been a problem—until now.

The thick vein in my neck throbs as she drapes her arms on his shoulders. I look away, grabbing the edge of the cold bar, no longer able to watch. I should get out of here, the party’s going well, Damian and Lilah are happy, no need for me to torment myself.

As I’m about to walk away, I notice a short blond standing right next to me. I’d been so distracted by Lexi, I’ve been oblivious to everyone else.

My lips turn up in a wide grin at the woman who looks down shyly for a moment before peeking back up at me with small brown eyes.

“Hey there, I’m Jax.”

“Ah—hi, I’m Emily.” She reaches out her hand to shake mine, but I pick hers up instead.

“Pleasure is all mine.” I kiss the top of it and the corner of her mouth lifts into a smile.

“Wanna dance? I mean unless you have a better offer elsewhere.” I grin, all the while hoping Lexi’s watching.

Emily’s cheeks flush and she shakes her head a bit too vigorously. “Nope. No offers at all.”

“I find that hard to believe, a pretty girl like yourself.” She is pretty but she’s not Lexi, then again no one is.

“Thanks.” Emily looks down at the floor again. She’s cute. I should fuck her. I should be who I was before Lexi came along and ruined everything.

I give her my hand. “Come on, let’s go dance.”

We head to the dance floor, hand in hand, and it’s too bad that the only area available is right next to Lexi and the dead man.

“Oh, hey Lexi. Hope you’re having a good time.” She glares at me through heated eyes, leaving fire blazing up my skin. “This is Emily,” I announce, knowing she doesn’t give a shit. I pull my new friend against my side and stare right back, a malicious smirk displayed on my face.Game on, baby.“Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?” I ask, masking the contempt crawling up my spine as I stare at the bastard’s face for the first time since I walked up.

“Rick. Jax. Jax. Rick. Now you’ve met.” Irritation spills from her every word and I soak it up, thirsty for any bit of her. He lifts his chin up in greeting but I ignore it. “Have a good time. I’ll see you around,” she grates out and turns away from me as they continue to dance.Someone’s a little jealous. A small part of me feels bad but I ignore it.

I capture Emily’s hips and bring her close to my body, just as close as Lexi’s to him. We may be dancing with other people but all the while our intense gaze is twisted in lust filled anger. I want to pull her away from him, tie her to my bed, and never let her go again. She needs to see exactly what she’s turned me into. A savage.

As the song continues to play, she places her head against his shoulder and that’s when I’ve finally had enough. My body turns cold and ice runs through my veins. Clenching my fist against the small of Emily’s back, I attempt to steady the jealous rage surging through me, but I fail as it sweeps over me with intense barbarity.

I feel it. I smell it. I see it.

It’s everywhere.

“Hey,” I say to Emily, “I have a pressing issue with the party I have to take care of, but I’ll find you later if I can, okay? Thanks for the dance.” I kiss her hand, noting her shocked expression at the abrupt end to our dance, and I race out of the room before I cause a scene.

“Hey man, where you goin’?” Gabe calls over the loud music as I pass him on the way to the elevator.

I stop.Pretend you’re fine. “Gonna go home. I’m tired as shit.”

“All right.” He regards me with suspicion.

“Dude stop staring at me like that. I haven’t touched her nor will I. It’s done.”

“Good. Keep it that way.”

“Damn, you’re like the pussy police.”

He laughs, shaking his head. “With you, I have to be.”
