Page 35 of Fragile Lies

“It’s okay Lex, you can keep staring.” He flexes his biceps. “Whatever’s mine is yours,” he adds suggestively.

“I wasn’t—I. Oh, forget it, I totally was.”

“It’s only fair, I do it to you all the time.” His voice trails off and his hooded gaze holds mine hostage. His cock grows rigid beneath me and I grind on it, craving another release that only he can give. If a person were to look up sex in the dictionary, Jax would be front and center. And the worst part is, he isn’t just nice to look at, heisnice. His only flaw is his refusal to commit. I have the best luck with men. I must’ve done something awful in a past life to deserve this form of cruelty.

A loud vibration on the floor interrupts my train of thought. “I think your cell woke up,” Jax says as he reaches down on the floor where my bag lays haphazardly next to my shirt. He hands me my purse and I open it, dragging my cell out to see who it is.

I unlock it and— “No! No! No!” I stare at a picture of Jax and me kissing on the jumbo screen at the game, along with some texts.

“What happened, babe?”

I read over the texts again.

Lilah: Something funny happened today as Damian and I were hanging out with Gabe. Want to know what it is? No? Well too bad because THIS is what we saw.

Lilah: You have some explaining to do woman. You said you two weren’t hooking up anymore. The lie detector determined that was a lie.

I hand Jax the cell and slam my eyes shut.

“Well I guess the cats out of the bag now.” He chuckles

“It’s not funny!”

“Okay. I promise not to laugh again but you make it hard, especially when you scrunch up your nose like that.” He taps my nose with his finger. “It’s adorable.”

I shove his hand away. “This isnotgood, Jax!”

He encloses his arms around my back. “Stop worrying about everyone else. We can do whatever the fuck we want. This thing is betweenus, not them. They’ll understand.”

“I just didn’t want them knowing.” Never in a million years did I think we’d end up on the big screen or I’d never agree to go.Ugh!

His cell vibrates on the nightstand and he reaches over to pick it up. I see Gabe’s name on the screen with a text I can’t make out as Jax reads it.

“What does it say!” I try to grab the phone away.

He laughs. “Okay, okay. Here.”

I snatch the cell, practically ripping it out of his hand.

Gabe: I thought you couldn't go to the game because you were sick, asshole. Seriously, didn't I tell you to stay away from her?

“Oh my God, he warned you to stay away from me? Why haven’t you told me?”

He smirks. “Oh yeah, baby, more than once. What can I say? I don’t follow the rules too well.”

Well, this just got interesting.

CHAPTER11

LEXI

Warm sunlight peersthrough Jax’s bedroom window, invading our personal oasis with its bright rays. We’ve spent most of our Sunday morning in his bed. And in between the sex and food then more sex, we’ve managed to sneak in some conversation.

He’s told me about his two younger brothers, Josh and Jacob, who help run the family winery business with their father, Andrew. Jax had never had any interest in that kind of life, and when he told his family that he wanted to enlist, they weren’t initially supportive. But in time, they understood that he was meant for other things.

His mother, Heather, works in a hospital and does a ton of charity work. I could hear how much he adores her from the way he talked about her. His family sounds awfully close knit like mine, I love that.

I burrow closer to him, my head resting on his chest. I’ve yet to text Lilah back. I know it isn’t her business what we do, but I don’t like the idea of lying to her anymore. We tell each other everything.
