“Chaos Demons.” Rex is the one to reply, drawing both of our attention.
“What? I walked past him at the gas station.”
“Chaos Demons? I’ve heard of them,” I murmur, thinking about what I know, which, granted, isn’t much.
“They used to be into some fucked up shit but have turned things around in the last five or six years. There are actually two chapters now, with rumors of a third in the works,” Nico says.
“How do you know all that?” Rex questions him.
“I’ve still got contacts. I keep my fingers on the pulse of whatever city we’re in. You can’t be in the game we are and not know the local players.”
I guess you can take the man out of the MC, but you can’t take the MC out of the man.
“So, we don’t need to worry about them?” Rex asks, sliding his now-empty plate onto the coffee table.
“I wouldn’t underestimate them. The mother chapter’s old president was a prick. I met him once and knew within seconds that he wasn’t playing with a full deck. Like I said, they’ve cleaned up. One chapter is supposedly more legit than the other, but I do know they are allied with the Kings of Carnage, who were once their enemies. So it shows you how much can change given enough time.”
I’m more familiar with the Kings of Carnage. Or I was, once upon a time. “Doesn’t matter anyway. I’ll probably never see him again.”
“You don’t know that. This could be the universe’s way of reminding you that you need some dick of the no-silicone variety.” Rex nudges me.
“I have a couple of glass ones too.” I stick my tongue out at him, making him grin. “Besides,”—I wave my hand over my legs—“I’m not what any of those guys would be into. I’m not bitter about it. It is what it is.”
“Jinx, you could probably take out most of those guys yourself. They’d be lucky to have you,” Nico growls.
“At their back, sure. But not in their bed. Not when they have a bunch of nubile, bendy club girls at their disposal.”
He starts choking on the mouthful of beer he just swallowed, and I rub his back until he stops. He wipes his mouth and looks at me.
“Tell me you don’t see yourself as less than a club slut.”
I hit him in the chest. “How many times have I told you not to call them that? It’s fucking sexist, and you know it. None of the men get referred to as brother sluts. And last time I checked, it took two to fuck.”
“Shit, sorry. Habit.” He rubs his chest where I hit him.
“Well, break it.” I tilt my head, taking him in. “Do you know how many club girls are single in any given club?”
“I’m guessing the number is high. Nobody is going to want a girlfriend who is also getting ridden hard by a biker.”
“You’d be right. Almost all club girls are single. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. Now tell me, how many club brothers are single?”
He shrugs. “Hard to say. But for argument’s sake, let’s say it’s an even split, fifty-fifty.”
“Okay.” I lean closer to him, my eyes locked on his. “Out of the fifty percent with old ladies at home, how many of them still slip their dicks into a club girl?”
He doesn’t answer because he knows that in an ideal world he’d say zero percent, but it’s not an ideal world. Infidelity is so common within MCs that it’s become a part of the life, and the worst is that the old ladies are just supposed to accept it for what it is.
“Not all clubs are like that,” Rex tells me softly.
“I know,” I say, thinking of the tears I used to see staining my mother’s face when my dad would come home smelling like one of the club girls, and I sigh.
“I learned a long time ago to separate my feelings. I can love my parents as a daughter and still be ashamed of them as a woman. They made their choices just like so many do. He chose to cheat. She chose to stay. Seeing that, not just with my folks but with some of the other old ladies, too, cemented that I would never be that woman. I don’t believe that forgiveness is divine. I would never be able to forget.”
“Plus, you carry a gun,” Rex jokes, making me smile.
“There is also that.”
I slide my plate and drink onto the table before leaning back and grabbing the remote.
