“Oh, Jinx, you smart fucking girl,” Nico crows, making his way over.

“What can you see?”

“Look on the floor there. Ice.”

“Why would there be ice on the… Holy fuck!” I follow Nico, who is already digging through the rubble with his bare hands.

It takes all three of us to shove the rubble from the freezer’s lid to the floor. I hold my breath as Nico lifts the lid, and my legs nearly give out on me. There, curled up in a ball, is the woman I’m going to marry.

“We need to get her out of here. She’s bleeding,” Nico yells as he reaches in for her and scoops her up.

I turn to Boomer, who looks white as a sheet. “We’re going to need help. Go, let the others know.”

He nods and hurries out as Nico kisses Jinx’s head before handing her over to me.

“I’m going to try and clear the way a little. Stay right behind me.”

“Don’t worry. I will. I’ve got her.”

“I know you do.” He squeezes my arm as I stare down at Jinx. Her skin is too pale, and she’s covered in blood, but she’s alive, and that’s all that matters.

“Hold on for me, baby girl. You got a lot of people who love you, just waiting for you outside.”

I keep moving behind Nico, stopping when we get to a section that we have to crawl over.

“I’ll go first. Then you can pass her through to me.”

I nod, not wanting to let her go—not trusting that she won’t slip away if I lose sight of her—but I have to have faith in our family right now.

“Just hold on for a few minutes more, Jinx. We’ve got you now. We’ve got you.”

I pass her to Nico, who turns and moves away. I start to crawl through, but then Nico’s hands are there, pulling me over.

I look up in panic. “Where is she?”

“Look.”

I follow his gaze and see Knight handing Jinx off to Viper. He cradles her to his chest as he reaches the part of the floor that partial collapsed into the basement bellow it. Extending his arms, he hands her over to Boomer. I feel tears on my face at the sight. Brothers working together as brothers, all the bullshit left at the door. This is what the MC is supposed to be about.

“Come on.” Nico grabs my wrist and helps guide me toward the exit. We follow everyone out as Jinx is carried with reverence to safety.

Once we make it outside, the paramedics swarm her as Rex runs over to Nico and throws himself in his arms.

“She’s okay. She’s a fighter. She didn’t come this far to quit on us now.”

“I know. You’re right.”

They put Jinx on a board and carry her to a waiting ambulance.

“Go with her, Rex. We’ll meet you there,” Nico tells him before giving him a hard kiss.

“We need to be with her,” I tell him.

“I’ll drive,” Nico tells me as we reach the others.

“We’re heading to the hospital.”

“We’ll come too. Scope’s gone with Mercy. Wizz and Kaz took the truck.”
