“It’s fine. There will be other places,” she says with a sad smile before looking away.

“Mercy,” I repeat, making her look back at me. “Do you trust me?”

“Of course. I wouldn’t be doing this with you otherwise.”

“Good. Then let me buy this place.”

Her mouth drops open in shock. “Do you have any idea how much a place like this goes for? I appreciate the sentiment, but I don’t think either of us is able to buy this place, even if we pool our resources together.”

“I worked as a bounty hunter because Nico and Rex do. I wanted to be close to them, and it was a good fit for me, for a while at least. I didn’t do it because I needed the money.”

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying my mom and pop both had large life insurance policies because they knew how dangerous their lives were. My dad owned the building and land that was once the Savage Hearts MC. And that was insured, too, when it burned to the ground. There were also club members that died that day that had no other family, some of them leaving insurance policies and property of their own to the dummy company my father’s MC used to clean their money. Again, I inherited the company and everything that went with it. I can buy this place. Hell, I could buy this whole street and it wouldn’t put a dent in my bank account. I gave Nico and Rex a chunk, and I bought my house. The rest is just sitting there gathering interest because nothing seemed worthy somehow. You know what I mean? They had to die to leave me that kind of money, so I refused to spend it on something that wouldn’t make them proud. This, Mercy… This would make them proud. I want to do this. I want to buy this place and make it the best fucking center it can be, and I want to do it with you.”

She rushes forward and throws herself at me. I’m so surprised I don’t have time to brace myself, so we go flying. She lands on top of me, making me groan.

“Holy shit, I forgot. I’m so sorry.”

She sits up, straddling me, which is exactly when the realtor walks in. Her eyes go wide as she takes in the scene before her.

I can’t help the laughter that erupts from me. “Not a fan of girl-on-girl?” I ask.

She tugs at the collar of her blouse before looking away. The telltale flush on her cheeks makes me wonder if she’s not a little turned on.

Clearing her throat, she looks back at us. “I’m afraid I have another appointment. I can keep looking for places more suitable to your… needs.”

Mercy jumps up and holds her hands out for me. I grab hold of them, bending my knees for leverage, and she helps pull me up.

“No need. We like this one. How much do they want for it?”

“Miss…”

I roll my eyes at her. She has my name on her clipboard right in front of her.

“McCree.”

“Right. Miss McCree. This property is on the market for five million dollars.”

“Call them. Tell them we’ll offer them four, and we’ll pay in full on the day of closing.”

She stutters in shock.

I cross my arms over my body. “Whenever you’re ready.”

She pulls out her cellphone and starts dialing.

“This place has been on the market for two years. I think they’ll be interested.”

She walks toward the window as she speaks into the phone.

Mercy looks up at me. “She was nice to me until she thought we were getting jiggy with it.”

“Getting jiggy with it? How old are you again? You know what? It doesn’t matter. I’m not sure if she’s offended that our boobs touched or if it’s my cut. I’ll admit, though, she looked a little jealous when you were straddling me,” I tease, making her laugh.

“We should make out. Totally freak her out.”

“As cute as you are, I’d rather Scope didn’t try to yank my uterus out of my belly button.”
