She just bites her lip, but she still doesn’t open her eyes.

“Lorelei, heart of my heart, open your beautiful eyes.”

Reluctantly, she does, and I see they’re shining with unshed tears.

“We’re not going to do anything you’re not ready for. You know that. You’re the boss. Always.”

“You always said that.” She drags her hand down my cheek. “I guess I’m just nervous.”

“Me, too.”

Her eyebrows climb. “You’re not nervous.”

“Are you kidding? We haven’t done this in a really long time, and there’s a whole lot of baggage between us since that last time. It’s a lot of pressure.”

“Okay, we make a deal.”

“Another rule?”

“If you like. Let’s toss the baggage. It’s heavy.”

“Too heavy.”

“And I’ll try to not be filled with paralyzing fear that you won’t like the way my body is now.”

“Have you not seen my face every time I look at you?”

She just smirks. “And you’ll toss the pressure out with the baggage. It’s just us. Today. Right now.”

“Just us.” I can’t hold back from kissing her again, and she clings to me as she gives as good as she gets. “You okay?”

“Yeah.” She takes a deep breath. “Yeah, my freak-out moment is over.”

“If you have any more of those, it’s all right. Got it?”

She nods, but rather than going back to where I was, I start from the very beginning.

And feel her relax against me.

Chapter Ten

Lorelei

I always used to think that Xander put some kind of a spell on me while we had sex. He puts me in this happy, floaty, burning haze every time we’re together like this, but I know now that it’s not a sex spell.

It’s just the chemistry between us.

The bond between my soul and Xander’s is so strong that whenever we make love, it’s as though we’ve been doing it for centuries.

And, if I believe what he’s always said, we’ve done exactly that—through many lifetimes.

“You don’t have to go that slow.” I grin when he lifts his head from where he’s making sure my chest gets plenty of attention and narrows his eyes at me. “I’m not complaining. I’m just saying I’m okay now.”

“Good. I’m great, too.”

And with that, he goes back to licking the underside of my breast, making me squirm. It’s one of my most sensitive spots, and he clearly remembers that all too well.

“Xander.” I can’t help but writhe under him, wishing he’d move much, much lower.

“Hmm?”

“I’m gonna need…oh, shit.” Was it just moments ago that I was all self-conscious and worried? Because now all I can think about is getting him inside me.

ASAP.

“What do you need?” He nibbles his way around my navel.

“You.” I swallow and just about come off the bed when he bites my flesh, just below my belly button. “In me. Now.”

“Look at me.”

I peel my eyes open and look down to where he’s settled between my legs, enjoying me.

“Are you sure?”

“Don’t I sound sure?”

He grins and then hovers over me, braced on one arm, as he guides himself to me. He’s right there, but he doesn’t push in.

“Xander.”

“I love you,” he says, those dark eyes pinned to mine. “I wanted to go ahead and get that out because it’s really cliché to say it during.”

My blood warms how it always does when he says those words to me. I cup his cheeks in my hands.

“I love you, too. Now, please, if you don’t fuck me, I’m going to lose my shit here.”

He smirks, and then he oh so slowly fills me. It takes me a moment to adjust to him because it has been a while, and he’s a big guy.

But then he begins to move, and I anchor my legs up high on his hips. It’s as though something in the universe just clicks into place.

Like I’ve come home.

I have to close my eyes to hide the tears that want to fall. If he sees them, he’ll stop, fearing he’s hurt me.

When, in reality, I was the one hurting myself all along.

He pushes me up, and when I’m at the precipice of falling into bliss, Xander plants his lips near my ear and whispers, “Go, baby. Go over for me.”

How can I resist that strong, rough command?

I can’t.

I fall, clinging to him as wave after wave of glorious sensation rolls through me. He thrusts twice and then follows me.

“It’s windy in here,” I realize as I gaze around the room and see the curtains billowing and papers moving.

The window isn’t open.

“We’ve always been powerful,” Xander replies as he rolls to the side to take his weight off me. “Did you hear the thunder?”

“There wasn’t thunder.”

A self-satisfied grin spreads over his ridiculously handsome face. “Oh, yeah. There was thunder.”

“You look awfully pleased with yourself.”

“I don’t think there’s been a moment in my life when I was more pleased than I am right now.” He tips my chin up so he can kiss me softly. “Are you okay?”
