“-No!” Axad cut in with force. “No. This is worse! He doesn’t smell like Zirc.”

It felt like my ears popped. I don’t know about Sim, but this is devastating news for my Zirc. He was our friend and lover. We always wanted him to end up with Roqs. No, this can’t be. The heavens were not that cruel.

“Both of you listen. Stop, whatever you’re thinking. Roqs smelled different. There’s a thin layer of Zirc that is typical when you are near a person for a long time.”

Sim and I are still reeling from shock to have a comeback.

“Roqs doesn’t smell like Zirc. Because Zirc’s changed.”

“What? Wha - “

“- Zirc’s smell changed. He mated to someone else. It’s not just Zirc or Coone I smelled. Zirc mated. Roqs still has no mate.”

Fuck. Sim and I cannot speak after that. This is a complication we don’t need right now. A newly mated Zirc? That was not Roqs? This is taking us back to that time Coone mated with Zirc.

“You over there,” a voice sounded behind our back. “Why don’t we have some quality time at the back and leave that beggar behind.”

“We are better quality, I assure you,” the proper words mentioned by that manasty was broken when he smiled and saw his crooked and missing teeth. The stench of this lot, and I mean a lot of about 6 manasties, was overpowering. I’m surprised I haven’t dumped them to the nearest waterhole.

“I guess break time’s over,” Sim stretched languidly, showing off his hard muscles when his arms pulled back from his robes. I remained stoic and fixed my stare on them. They have weapons that can hurt us, if they know how to use it. The robes we are wearing are giving them vibes that we are rich and in need of some pleasurable activity. Our purple tails were the same as everyone else. However, they are both clean so it gives us away.

“Come now, Nim,” Sim chided. “You did say we need to blend.”

My chest rumbled. Then I sneezed. This high up, my allergies were acting up.

Sim chuckled. ”You have to get yourself down and dirty to make you look like a local. They need our help.”

And with that, we charged. These manasties were looking for a quick lay and some quick crystals. They are lucky that we are only here to play with them to make us look messy and not outright kill.

Somebody tried to land a right hook on me and I dodged just enough to slightly bruise and kneed him in the process. He was the biggest and I was hoping he will give me a good game. But no, he tumbled down like a log.

In the corner of my eye, I saw Axad leaning against the wall typing away on his handheld device. He needs to sweat a bit and tumble so he’ll look more like a beggar.

Sim came flying towards me. This happened a million times already so I was ready to take him and shove him back to where he came from. Strips from his robe revealed his stripes. Unlike me, I always tuck my robes in my forearm so they will be neat when all this is over.

A couple more manasties went down and I wasn’t gasping with breath. Unlike the last two kneeling on the ground. One of them got up and brandished an aquiline crystal.

Shit, that will hurt. A lot. I exchanged a quick glance with Sim and gave him the honor of snatching that fucking crystal. The crystal went airborne along with the hand holding it. I caught it and deftly broke it in two.

There were more screaming I can hear on my back as I went back to Axad.

He raised any eyebrow and looked me up and down.

I raised my right forearm. “There’s blood stain on this.”

He rolled his eyes on me. Then he looked at Sim who stood beside me. He was grinning as he pointed to the slash of blood on his chest. He wore it like it was a medal of honor.

A new voice joined us that had us panicking.

“You pussies need to get out of your cave more.” A cave to a Purple Tribe is an insult. A grave insult.

We turned, eyes slitted, claws out.

And there, grinning like a hiscat, was Coone. In one of his beggar outfits, he smelled like the water hole that should be called a sewer near us. He winked at us.

Fuck, he had us. Again.
