CHAPTER9

Meeting Brynn

Coone

Icouldn’t stop touching Brynn. She was finally in my arms. Except for these bruises. Now I know what my grandmother said about going berserk when your mate got hurt. I saw Zirc hurt. It drove him and Roqs mad when I got too aggressive. But it was nothing now compared to what I felt about seeing her like this. If I had a beast inside me, I would let it out right now. It took a lot of me to control myself from going back and tracing her steps to deal with whoever did this to her.

What stopped me? Her body shook a little, tears gathering in her eyes.

Beside me, I was glad at the same time puzzled that Roqs was acting so out of character. He did not mated with Brynn like Zirc, yet the way he acted right now, who was to say he is not mated to her?

Her.

Shit. How do we explain this to the Royal Pain In My Ass Twins. Crix’s loyalty was always in the pursuit of science and his mate. Right now, he could come in handy when we explained Brynn’s circumstances with them. Even in my fury, I did not miss the way they eyed my Brynn. They had the same look when I first me them.

Shit.

I need a strong bottle of ghats for this.

And I need Zirc.

This mate business was more complicated than I thought. Why would my grandmother insist this was the best thing that ever happened to her? Of course, I was the only Neko in our family to mate outside our race.

“Here,” Axad led us to to a big room with a large conference table. Thank the heavens it was a circular table. There was no protocol to follow on who gets to seat where.

“Debrief. Now,” Roqs commanded in his alpha voice. He did not sit down, just paced near the windows. He kept looking at me and Brynn.

The ‘twins’ stiffened, so did the leader of the Red Guard. I did not missed the way Brynn was comfortable withhim. She knew him from before.

We all sat, Brynn in between me and Sim. Sim subtly moved his chair closer to Brynn, but I did not fuss about it. I know him and Nim.

Xy sat opposite us. “One of the dockyard’s workers contacted me for help. Said there was someone trafficking aliens.” He glanced briefly at Brynn. Good, if he continued to stare at her, I will turn feral. Beside him, I saw Axad frowning at Brynn.

I felt Roqs’ hand squeezed my left shoulder, and he dipped his body in between me and Brynn. “Here Brynn,” he said as he placed the com gadget in front of her. “You can mark the photos, just write anything on it if you saw anyone familiar.”

He straightened and crossed his arms in front of his chest. I glanced at Brynn, her head lowered to the com gadget and began to swipe through the photos. She looked better now. No deep wounds I need to be wary of. Except for internal wounds I couldn’t see. What happened to her?

“Coone,” Nim called me. I looked up. He removed his mask and I could see his deep frown.

I wasn’t listening to the room. “What?”

Sim answered. “Stop sniffing Brynn.”

“Huh?” I answered.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Brynn was looking at me, a small sad tilt to her lips. She was almost fully seated on top of me, my nose buried in the crook of her neck.

Shit. When did that happened?

I was lost in smelling all the details I missed earlier. Roqs was right, there were just too many smell. What I want right now is to erase all these disgusting smells on her. Now.

“Coone, stop.” Roqs pressed a hand on my shoulder.

I inhaled her again.

“Who touched you?” I growled.
