Thud.

That’s the sound of my body falling onto the hard floor. My generous hips and elbows are probably bruised. Thank goodness for adrenaline. I barely felt the bruises. My mind is hyper focused on the scene in front of me. My feet is still underneath the door. I saw the exact moment when Ist’s brother passed by the door, with 2 strange looking aliens with him. They are not manasties. Not even Coone’s kind. They are more human like but with ram horns. The only skin I can saw are the faces. One of them briefly looked at me but dismissed me immediately. The one closest to Ist’s brother looked bored and just looked ahead. These new aliens are taller. Like a head or two taller than the manasties.

When they passed, I immediately snatched my feet and the door closed.

That’s when I realized there are too much noise happening at my back. I scrambled to my right, which is the closest door and looked around.

CHAPTER3

Aliens

Brynn

Afew of the manasties looked at me curiously but they did not stop with whatever they are doing. The hallway is much brighter compared to this space. This space is massive. There are lots of crates and manasties moving around. I saw two or three other alien species but they all have tails except they either have too much fur or no fur at all. Just tails and humanoid looking.

I glanced down and saw my bundle of joy sleeping. I am glad he’s not making any sound. It’s good he’s warm because every time I exhale, I see puffs of smoke.

This place kind of reminds me of a gondola or cable car ride. I was scared of heights and my parents thought it was a cool idea to take me to these kind of rides so I can get rid of my phobia. I know that any time now, Ist’s brother will know I’m missing and this might be the first place he will search.

“You there!”

I almost peed in my pants.

The owner of the booming voice reached me in two giant strides. How can I miss him? He is even wider and taller than Zirc!

I cowered in my little corner behind the crates but knew I’m exposed when that door opens.

“You the new recruit?” I lost my voice when he grabbed my arm gingerly so now I’m standing up, my knees shaking.

“Nif! I told you not to scare them,” a new voice said just behind the mountain of this man. The newcomer is also a manasty. For some reason, I find it funny that they have white and black alternating fur on their skin. Or maybe they used to be all white but because this place has all kinds of grease and dirt, they are smeared with black tar.

“Is he the new recruit?” Nif said and I realized that’s his normal tone of voice which is still too loud to my ears.

The other guy came up to me and I try to stand still as he inspects me. From the corner of my eyes, I saw him frown when I saw his behind. “Yes, he’s the new recruit. Liphisky told me the new recruit barely has any tail.”

I quivered when he used his large hand to pat my head like a pet. “Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you.”

For now, I decided I’ll go with these guys than face Ist’s brother who plans to kill me. I mean, what’s the worst can happen? They might even be good guys. Being kidnapped then adopted seemed to be my kind of thing on this planet.

“Is that all the things you have?” I noticed Nif’s tone gentled down a bit but I’m fully aware he’s looking at the bundle on my chest. I hope they can’t hear or smell my fear. Or smell the hiscat. I nodded. His hand on my arm loosened and with his head, urged me to follow him. I looked at the other guy who I still don’t know his name was. He is looking down at me with a frown.

With very limited choices, I urged my legs to move, stumbling a little when we passed the corner of crates. Nobody helped me which is good. I don’t feel good being near them. I missed Zirc, Coone and even Roqs! Even Roo. I was pampered! I prided myself of being independent. I could do this. At least I could speak their language and I could understand them.

“You smell,” the other guy behind me sniffed loudly like he’s trying to smell a soup! I yelped and took steps away from him.

I bumped into another guy and earned a few growls but I can’t look back. The other guy’s frown deepen. What is it with these guys’ smelling capabilities?

“I-I haven’t taken a bath - “ I don’t exactly know when. I rubbed my hands in front of me to warm them.

I heard some men guffawed behind and beside me.

“What have you got here Sinx?” The one beside me snickered. He smells foul but I held my breath. Everything in here smells of grease, earth and body odor. If I can smell them when it’s this cold, then I don’t want to imagine how they smell during summer. He looked down on me even though I’m a head taller than him. He looked thin with shades of green and yellow fur. When he smiled, he is missing a lot of teeth. “You got of those sophis- sosis”

Another guy laughed hauling crates. “You don’t even know what it is!”

“Hah, I’ll let you know that I’d been with sophis - sosis” He spat. I can’t prevent the shudder that went through my body thinking it landed on my foot. “I used to work in the Purple Kingdom you lot should know!”

Another voice piped in, that one much gruffer but I can’t locate with all the moving bodies. No one is orchestrating their moves but they move without bumping into each other as they load different crates into the cable car. Except for the almost-toothless guy.
