Sim sighed. I would have sighed as well but his clothing distracted me. “He is the alpha of the Silver Tribe.”

“And our friend,” Sim piped in.

“He wasn’t supposed to be here though,” I supplied. “Do you think something happened to Zirc and Coone?”

“That’s what I want to know,” Axad answered with a sigh that finally we understood his point. He swiped his hand on his almost smooth head. Instead of wearing his mane long, he cut it very short. “If I did not know him, I wouldn’t know that he was afraid.”

“Afraid?” I snorted. “Roqs?”

“Exactly! That’s what puzzles me.”

Sim arranged his robes that matched mine. “Roqs is never afraid. Manasties are afraid of him.”

Axad sighed. “Those on his way parted for him at the port. True. His grey stripes almost turned white.”

I lost it and laughed out loud causing some of the sinister looking locals near our area to look at us. Those with lesser courage slowly walked away. Yes, when Sim and I laugh, blood shed ensues.

“You both are not listening! Fine, I’ll give you the most important part of what I saw.”

“Ha,” I swished my tail against him. “I always remind you to give us the juicy part of it.”

“When I do that, you both will charge without thinking,” he grumbled.

Sim and I straightened up. Good, we are always looking forward to fight. We stared holes at Axad before he finally, finally told what happened.

“I was on the tram station near our pick up point. There was no sign of Zirc or Coone. They are late for more than a week. Something about some ‘thing’ that they caught. I’m hoping it’s a prisoner. They’d been very vague, I know. Then Roqs came charging down the planks. Sniffing. His eyes are narrowed. He’s in his Alpha state!”

“That’s not good,” Sim murmured and straightened on his seat.

Axad nod. “No, that’s not the only thing. He suddenly stopped and on the other side is a cable cart, the one that carries packages. Roqs hair stood on end.”

“Fuck, did he change into a beast?” I asked.

“No. No. So calm down both of you. I wouldn’t be like this if that was the case.”

“Yes, I expect you to be bloodied and lose the shirt,” Sim is trying to make light of the situation. But an enraged alpha, of the Silver Tribe, on Purple Tribe lands. Not good. Even if this is the rowdy side of our lands, it is not good to have another alpha destroying and killing things. This is why, as a precaution, Roqs is not supposed to arrive here. They were to meet with -

“He prepared to leap to the other platform but all these other carts start raining down on the other side. The one cart he is interested in, vanished.”

“Ported to another location,” I explained.

“Yes. Roqs went ballistic.”

My claws went out.

“Then he got afraid. He leaped to the other platform and just ran away.”

“What spooked him?” I ran my claws alongside the barrel Sim was sitting on. Axad glanced briefly on the ribbons I was making then looked up to my eyes.

“That’s the thing. I don’t know. He just disappeared.”

Sim placed a hand on my shoulder. “He probably used one of his special crystals.”

“Yes. But that’s not got me spooked. An alpha is always on a mission. They are still a mortal, like us so they can be afraid. But,” he pointed one finger up. “He smelled different.”

“Different?” Both Sim and I are dumbfounded. Smells on manasties are a big deal. We looked at each other and both our purple eyes rounded.

At the same time, we exclaimed, “They got mated! That’s good - “
