Parker

It’s just after dinner and I find my mother just as we get off the Cassiopeia. My father stands in the distance, still talking to one of his business colleagues.

Hudson lingers behind me as I go over to my mom and embrace her before I leave.

“When will we see you again?” she asks. “Maybe you can come and see what your father has done with the house.”

“I don’t know. We can have a lunch date and Vanders can pick me,” I tell her as I let go of her.

“That will be a good idea. Do you want Vanders to take you home?” she asks as she runs her fingers through my hair.

“I’m going with Hudson.”

She smiles. “You have to come and visit. I want to know how this happened. You and Hudson.”

My cheeks heat up again. “It’s nothing.”

She raises her eyebrows. “It doesn’t look like nothing to me. Now go on,” she kisses me on the cheek. “I think he’s waiting for you.”

“Tell dad I love him for me,” I say and walk back to where Hudson is standing.

“Ready to go?” Hudson asks, holding out his hand.

“Yes, sir,” I tell him, which makes his lips curl up into a devilish smirk.

Hand in hand we walk away from the pier and towards the roadside, where a shiny black Lamborghini is idle.

“Nice ride,” I tell him.

“Thanks.” He comes around to my side and opens the door for me and when I get in, he closes it gently after me.

Everything inside his car is neat and clean. There’s not a speck of dust or anything out of place which makes me feel strange.

I am a neat freak. I hate when things are filthy or untidy, but Hudson’s car had nothing personal about it. There is no random condom foil lying around, no CD on the floor, no keyring hanging from the rear-view mirror. It’s empty and cold.

Even his smooth, black leather seats are spotless as if no one has ever sat in them before. The only thing that makes it feel like his car, is the scent of his warm spicy cologne.

When he gets in beside me, he looks over at me and smiles and I forget about the car being so clean and neat. What would life be like if people weren’t different anyway?

He turns the key in the ignition and the car roars to life as he pulls out onto the road.

“Tomorrow is Sunday,” Hudson says. “Are you doing anything?”

“I have reading to do for Monday. I haven’t even read much of what I was assigned to read.”

“So, read it tomorrow then. But let me take you out. The yacht is in NY for the weekend. Meet me at the river and we can just relax,” he says. “Just you and I, Parker.”

Just us alone. Hudson and I alone. The thought makes me nervous, but excited.

“Okay,” I say, as I point out with dismay as my apartment building comes into view. “I stay there.”

Hudson stops just outside the brick building and cuts the engine off before turning his body to face me.

“Can I pick you up at 9:30 tomorrow morning? I have a meeting early, but I’ll be free after that,” he says, moving closer.

He reaches out and runs his fingers through my hair before dropping his hand on my thigh.

“Tomorrow sounds good,” I say quickly.
