“Hudson,” a ragged whisper escapes my lips.

Hudson thrusts into me a few more times before he comes seconds later and both our sweaty bodies tremble together.

He relaxes against me and we stay like this for the next few minutes, watching silently as weak morning light pours into my small bedroom, until sleep finally pulls at my eyelids.

Flashback…

Hudson

“You know what women want?”

Hudson stood against the wall watching as his father sat in his chair, talking to Matt. It was no secret that Matt was his favourite son. Matt was the ideal child, always on track with the markets, engaged to a beautiful woman. He was a real businessman just like their father, John Saylor-Tyne.

Both were deluded fucking pricks in Hudson’s opinion. His mother was a poster wife, perfect on the outside and the inside…Hudson couldn’t imagine that his mother was a very happy person. At least not with his father.

John was charismatic and looked good, with his black hair and trademark green eyes which made Hudson a perfect replication of him.

But the charm was all just a pretence. Sometimes, Hudson felt as if he and his father shared more in common than he would have preferred.

“What do women want?” Matt asked.

“I thought you would have learnt that from your brother,” John said glancing over at Hudson. “They want you to make them your bitch. Once you make them your bitch, you’re the luckiest bastard in the world. How do think I’ve survived with your mother so long?”

Matt let out a half-hearted laugh as he glanced over at Hudson. The discomfort in his green eyes was evident.

They both knew the truth. Their mother only stayed around because of

them. Hudson could hardly care. Their family was nothing before it even began. There was never anything real before and would never be anything anytime soon.

John had all the money in the world, but no real love. And Hudson knew deep down that he would also end up the same one day.

Hudson knew deep down that he wasn’t completely alright inside. He didn’t feel things the way everyone else felt them. He saw the way Matt looked at Taylor and he was sure that it wasn’t how he looked at Diana. She was an object of desire to him and nothing more. There was a void in his soul and he wasn’t sure if it would ever be completed.

Lost in his thoughts, the sound of his mother’s soft voice calling them to dinner brought him back to their backyard.

John and Matt had already gone in and his mother stepped out on their wide patio. She was a beautiful woman. Victoria. Dark hair—almost as black as his—, and a painted face to accentuate her delicate features. From everyone else in Hudson’s world, he felt a strong connection with his mother the most.

It wasn’t entirely loving, but it was something and he held onto that. It made him feel like he was normal.

“Are you okay?” she asked, ruffling his hair. “Don’t mind your father if he’s been speaking loosely again. He’s been drinking since this morning.”

Hudson placed his beer bottle away from him on a stone ledge. His mother hated alcohol.

And then he turned around to face her and did what he did best. He smiled and lied. “I’m fine. Just tired from all my classes.”

The Attic

Hudson

It’s unnaturally hot in the attic room. I can’t remember what time it was when I was locked up in here. My father was drinking again and his rage was unleashed when my mother left and hadn’t returned that evening.

I run my tongue over the swelling cut on my bottom lip. The familiar coppery taste of blood filled my mouth. My ears felt as if they would explode with the pressure from my heart beating loudly.
