“As I was told, you were given a high amount of Vicodin,” she says. “You really must be special, because the Hudson I know doesn’t help anyone. Not unless he chooses to.”

Hudson.

I look around at my surroundings and find myself in his room. I’m at the penthouse.

And then I start to get vivid images of him over Blake, pounding his fists into him with so much anger. A cold shiver runs down my spine.

She leans over and grabs the glass pitcher before pouring it into a glass cup and then hands it to me.

“Drink a lot of water and keep your meals light. If anything goes wrong, I’ll be over,” she says, before leaving the room.

I lift the glass to my lips and gulp down the deliciously cool water as if my life depended on it.

Sitting up, my body feels extremely weak and light as if all the energy from me has been drained. I hear faint murmurs coming from downstairs, so I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and lightly pad across the room.

My head is dizzy, but I make it to the top of the stairs and make my way down as quietly as I can.

“She looks like a good girl,” Caroline says in a hushed voice.

“I don’t want to talk about this right now,” Hudson says. “Thanks for coming Caroline. I’ll send a payment to your bank account.”

“You don’t have to do that. I hope you do the right by her, Hudson.”

What is she talking about? And who is she?

“Sounds like my parents are discussing my love life again.”

“It’s not like that. You know they’re always worried about you and Matt.”

“Yeah.” I hear the emptiness in his voice. “Thanks for coming.”

“Anytime. Just tell me how she’s doing in a few hours, okay?”

“Sure.”

I hear soft footsteps, a door closing and then silence. There’s an eerie stillness in the air, just like when I first came here. Empty, silent.

Stepping into the living room, I see him hunched as he sits on the couch. Weak grey light pours into the room as I walk closer to him.

The light touches the smooth curves of his skin. My eyes wander across the bone of his spine and I momentarily want to reach out and touch him. But I stand still and breathe in carefully.

“How are feeling?” His voice is low as he speaks, sensing my presence in the room.

“Better,” I whisper. “Thank you.”

There’s a long awkward pause and I unconsciously wring my hands together as the knot in my stomach curls. The light patter of rain outside is the only sound around us.

Hudson stands up and turns around to face me. “I’m really glad that you’re better. Caroline is an old family friend. She’s a retired doctor and came as soon as I called her.”

“Thank you.” I don’t know what else to say and my brain seems to be at a loss for words.

He nods and stares at me as if expecting me to say more and his rigid body language scares me.

“Sorry,” I whisper.

“Sorry?” His lips curl into a callous smirk. “What the fuck were you doing with another guy at a bar and dressed like that, Parker? Like some random slut.”

His words cut deep. I can’t believe he just called me a slut and he doesn’t even look sorry about it.
