“He’s strange,” Matt continues. “But I love him.”

“Are you older than him?”

“By a year,” Matt replies as he stares out of the window.

In the distance, we can hear the sound of a car horn being pressed several times.

“Well, I guess that means it’s time to start preparing the snacks.” Matt walks out of the room but turns to me before he leaves. “You coming? You did say you love cooking, so you are the newly designated chef!”

I can’t help but chuckle. “Yes. I’ll help. I suppose I don’t have a choice in this matter?”

Matt grins. “Definitely not. Come on.”

Mixed Feelings And Alcohol

Parker

Beer is flowing from the kegs asNo Chillby Kevin Flum blasts through the air.

It’s barely 10 p.m. and the house is already full of people. Half naked girls in short skirts and revealing crop tops with shirtless frat boys balancing three red solo cups.My worst nightmare.

And with Hudson missing all evening, I can’t help the anxiety that creeps into my gut. All these half-naked girls.

“How many people are here?” I ask Matt, who’s looking a little flustered as he piles more kettle chips into a bowl.

“Maybe fifty, sixty. I lost count,”

Matt says. “And only about five of them are people that I really know.”

“Oh okay. Do you know where H-”

As if hearing my unfinished question Hudson appears in the kitchen and walks over to where Matt I stand by the island.

“Why are there so many fucking people?” Hudson asks irritably as he leans against the island.

“That’s what happens when you say you want a Spring Break rager,” Matt says, as he takes the bowl of chips and leaves the kitchen.

“Hey,” Hudson whispers as he comes up behind me, his tall frame enveloping me as he watches me wipe the granite surface with a cloth. “Do you wanna…” he trails off as his fingers push my hair aside and he kisses the tender side of my neck. “It’s really quiet upstairs. In my room.”

“Maybe later,” I tell him.

I feel him go still behind me. “Not now?”

“I’m busy. You know, this is your party and you should be helping out the most,” I joke, but when I turn around to face him, Hudson is not smiling or laughing.

“If you don’t want to have sex with me then just tell me straight, Parker,” he says in a sharp voice. “Not some other bullshit.”

“What is wrong with you?” I snap. “You’ve been in an annoying mood since we came here. If you were going to do this, then maybe I would have been better off somewhere else!”

He shakes his head as he lifts his red solo cup to his lips, before taking a long gulp of his drink. “You know what? I think so too.”

Just as he stalks off back into the party, Matt walks in, momentarily staring after his brother.

“What’s up with him?”

“Don’t ask,” I mutter.
