“My dad won’t be home before ten tonight, unless the game goes longer. Wanna come home with me? You can make dinner with whatever’s in the house, since I won the race.” A cheeky grin split his cheeks as he glanced Jax’s way.

“You mean the race you cheated in?” Jax kept his voice even to mask the way his heart beat faster at the thought of being alone with Noah in his home. “I’d like that, but I don’t have a change of clothes and I’d like to shower, if that’s okaywith you.”

Showering in Noah’s bathroom with him in the house would be a challenge, but he was man enough to face it head-on. He was sure if he didn’t make an offer, Noah wouldn’t make another advance. That kiss on the beach had been a turning point on their path back to each other, but he wouldn’t expect more than whatever he got. And he wouldn’t push … they both still needed to be sure of what they wanted going forward.

“I’m sure I can find something for you to wear,” Noah was saying. “What time are you leaving in themorning?”

“My meeting at the college is at ten, so I’ll need to leave no later than six-thirty. It’s a three-hour drive and since I don’t know the way or the traffic patterns, I’d rather be early than late.”

“Okay. We have a little time then. Let’spack up.”

The ride back to Noah’s house was made in comfortable silence. Unlike earlier, Jax was not thrumming with unnamed tension, though his mind buzzed with anticipatory thoughts that he kept trying to quash. They were just going to have dinner. Well, maybe make out a bit as well, but that was all he could hope for right now. Nothing else seemed feasible, and he wouldn’t get carried away with needful wishing.

“Bathroom’s through there,” Noah told him after he’d led him to their guest room. “Fresh towels and washrags are in the cupboard, and new toothbrushes are in the bottom drawer of the vanity. I’ll put something for you to wear onthe bed.”

“Thanks. Do you have the fixings for spaghetti with red sauce and sausages?” He was supposed to be cooking for them, and he’d do well to remember that.

“Yeah. I’ll get everything ready for you.” Noah’s eyes took him in as he turned from putting his bag on the chair.

“What?” The look in his eyes made Jax want to close the distance between them and take his mouth again.

“Nothing. Enjoy your shower.” His eyes lingered on Jax’s lips for a moment, as though he was having the same thoughts, before he turned and leftthe room.

Ignoring his cock proved to be the ultimate challenge of the evening as Jax washed his hair and showered. He resisted the urge to stroke himself to a quick orgasm as he soaped his body, wishing Noah was with him in the narrow shower stall. He tried to lose himself in the pleasing masculine scent of the shampoo and shower gel that Noah used. He’d smell like Noah when he walked into the kitchen. The thought of that kind of intimate connection plumped his already aching dick, and he squeezed the base to calm himself before wrapping the bath towel around his hips and exiting the steamy room.

The shorts and t-shirt that Noah left on the bed for him were a little snug, but he didn’t mind. They were soft and well-worn, the color of the midnight sky with a sprinkling of stars and a new moon on the t-shirt. He noticed that his clothes were missing when he went to his duffel, and he could hear what sounded like a washing machine going. He could wear his own clothes home, or he could go commando and wear Noah’s back to Jim’s, where no doubt his friend would be up waiting for him. He chuckled softly to himself as he remembered Jim’s last text message with the hopeful eggplant emoji.

Cut it out, Knox!He inhaled slowly before walking out to the kitchen where he found Noah making a salad, dancing to some music playing on thecellphone next to where he was working on the counter. His ass in the board shorts was begging to be squeezed. Jax groaned and walked over to where he danced, unaware of his audience.I’m just letting him know I’m done so he can go shower now.He ignored the snarky voice in his head calling him a liar when he reached out to touch Noah.

“Oh, hey!” Noah smiled over his shoulder at him, putting down the knife he’d been wielding and stopping the music. “My dad likes a salad with his meal, so I thought I’d make enough that he can have some tomorrow with the leftovers.”

“That’s fine. Shower’s yours now.”

“Thanks. I’ll be back in a bit.” He stepped away from the counter, away from Jax, and the sense of loss was immediate.

Jax reached for him almost blindly, almost unaware that he’d done so until Noah stood in his personal space looking into his eyes with heat and curiosity. Jax still could not find the words to say what he wanted, so he took a leaf from Noah’s book and showed him instead. This kiss was hungry, demanding, almost desperate. Noah slid his hands into Jax’s hair, pulling his head down and moaning as they kissed. Time stood still as they explored each other’s mouths, reacquainting themselves with the way they had enjoyed kissing each other before. A nip here, a suck there, butterfly pecks on eyelids and the tips of noses, a scrape of teeth over a jutting chin, before they returned to the soul-stirring kisses that spoke with tongues of their renewed attraction.

Jax dragged his mouth away at last, reluctant to put any distance between them but needing to slow things down so he could cook, and Noah couldclean up.

“We don’t have all night, sweetheart. Go shower.”

Noah’s lingering gaze kept his body humming while he prepared their meal. The sausages were in the pan when Noah came back into the kitchen.

“Mmm! Something smells good.”

Jax turned away from the pan for a moment, taking Noah in as he sauntered over to the cupboard, pulling plates and glasses out. His jeans shorts and band t-shirt were skintight, leaving little to Jax’s overheated imagination. He didn’t have much to imagine though, because while Noah had buffed up a bit, he was still the same gorgeous Latino with the same come-fuck-me eyes and kiss-me-now lips that he’d been over a decade ago.

“You look good,” he said, suddenly unwilling to hide hisreaction.

Part of being open was sharing emotional responses. It was the kind of intimacy that he’d always craved, that he’d missed from the moment he’d sent Noah away. None of the very few hookups he’d had since then had given him any of the warmth flowing in his veins now at the mere sight of the man he loved, had always loved, wouldalways love. It felt right to accept that completely here, in Noah’s space.

“Thanks.” Noah’s surprisingly shy smile lit him up like the Fourth of July.
