“And some things are intuitive, like love.” Jax’s response was as serious as Noah had ever remembered him being. “Some people just know how to show love without having to be givenlessons.”

Noah’s breath hitched. Jax had told him that the first time they’d made love, when he’d been tied up in knots and worrying about whether he’d disappoint his older, more experienced lover, because he was a virgin with a deep hunger to know everything and try everything at least once. The pride he’d felt at being able to bring Jax pleasure had been overwhelming then. He held Jax’s gaze now, letting himself relax completely in the certainty of being acceptedthis time.

“A wise man once told me that,” he said, keeping his eyes on Jax. “And I thought I understoodit then.”

“And now?”

“Now I’m ready to embraceit fully.”

No more pussyfooting around. He was still the same person he had been the first time he’d dared Jax to kiss him. The Halloween party that the music department hosted for its students every year was a well-known event on campus, and the other professors who had come along to help wrangle a wild bunch of twenty-somethings had made it a fun yet safe place to be. Noah’s Uber had been the last to arrive, so he’d had a perfect reason to remain behind when his classmates haddeparted.

A smile touched his lips as he recalled their first kiss. The Uber had been a minute away, and Jax had walked with him to the front door, ready to open it and step out into the cold night with him to await its arrival when Noah had set his palm on the older man’s hard chest. Jax’s heart had been racing, confirmation, so far as Noah was concerned, that this man wanted him as much as he did, that the looks he had intercepted were ones of interest, and that the flirtatious conversations that he’d initiated were notunwelcome.

He had studiously avoided all contact with Jax for the whole time that the party had been going on, spending time with the other professors and his friends, barely managing not to ignore him so as not to raise any brows. He’d been polite yet distant … until the moment he’d reached up to cup Jax’s cheek with his other hand and whispered,“I’ve tried really hard to tell myself that what I’m about to do is inappropriate, that you’ll hate it, and me, that I am taking a huge risk and should rethink it. But now, feeling your heart beating like this under my fingers, I think I can take a chance, don’t you, Prof?”

“Noah…” Jax’s voice had been pained as he’d gently taken hold of Noah’s wrists and had tried to put more space between them.

“If you really don’t want to kiss me like I’ve been wanting to kiss you since the first day I met you, I’ll leave, and I’ll never approach you again, sir.”

Jax had tensed at the word, making Noah wonder if he liked it, if it turned him on to be called “sir.”

“Noah, no matter how I feel, we should not engage like this.”

“Is that a yes or ano, sir?”

He’d said it again, teasing Jax, and had watched as he closed his eyes and swallowed. Noah had eased closer, moving his other hand up to cup the other cheek and pressing a soft kiss to Jax’s jaw, first one side, then the other. The man had trembled beneath his touch, but he hadn’t moved, instead transferring his own hands to Noah’s waist.

“Yes or no, Prof?” Noah had whispered again, this time letting his lips touch Jax’s.

The groan that had accompanied that chaste kiss was all the warning he’d got before Jax was opening him up, demanding entry to his mouth and access to his tongue, and they’d been tongue fucking each other as the Uber drew up to the curb. That had been over far too quickly for Noah’s liking, but he’d won that first skirmish, and the battle for Jax’s heart had been on.

Now, all these years later, he was back there again, demanding to be given what he wanted, getting the man he loved to see that what they could have together was worth every chance they were willing to take. And this time, Jax had no reason to refuse him, no reason to reject hisadvances.

“Noah?”

He blinked, coming back to the moment. “Sorry, what?”

Jax eyed him suspiciously. “Where’d you just zone out to?”

Noah sipped some more wine. He was older now, a bit more experienced, and he could be patient. “I was just remembering.”

He could also tease, because he knew how that could ratchet up the desire that was now riding the air between them. He watched Jax eat another mouthful of food before speaking, and he grinned. The game was on. More warmth flooded his chest at the memory of the times they’d tried to see which one would break first in the flirting and seduction games they played. There’d been a lot of laughter but there’d also been a lot of making out and a lot of lovemaking.

Jax’s response shocked him. It had never been like this before. “Do you really want to live in the past, Noah, or do you want to step into a smarter future? Like I told you before, I won’t do anything you’re not up for. But I’m beyond ready to end the games. Aren’t you?”

Well, damn! “Yeah.” He was speechless beyond thatone word.

Jax stood up, pushing his chair back so hard it toppled over, shaking Noah to his very foundation.“Come here!”

The growly command stoked the fire already burning in Noah’s body as he moved to obey, going to stand in front of Jax and holding the other man’s heated gaze.

“The first time we kissed, back when you were an eager twenty-something, I let you drive me insane before I broke and took what we bothwanted.”

He lifted a hand to trace the line of Noah’s jaw, to stroke over his plump lips, to push a thumb between them. Noah licked it, making Jax hiss, but he didn’t remove it. Instead, he pushedit deeper.

“Suck it.”

Noah gasped, and Jax took advantage, sliding his thumb all the way in. Noah sucked, moaning ashe did so.
