The drive to The River King took twenty minutes, and the parking lot was fairly full when they got there. Fortunately, they managed to find parking next to each other in the back of the lot and were soon seated at a table for two on the wide back porch. The sun still lent its brightness to the late afternoon, painting the sky in rich gold. They placed their drink orders before Jax spoke again.

“So what do you think ofthe town?”

“I didn’t see much of it, but what I saw was pretty neat. There’s a music shop on one of the streets I took toget here.”

Jax grinned at him. “Trust you to notice that!”

“I’m a musician … it’s what we do.” Noah’s grin matched his.

“I like what little I’ve seen of it, but I really want to explore a bit more before I go.”

“Makes sense, I guess. I mean, you are gonna be living here for a while at least, so it’s best to know what you’re getting into.”

“I’ve booked a room for the night because I’d like to see the other two places the realtor has lined up for me. They are also single-family homes, but smaller than the one we just saw. We can go drive around and get a feel for the town after dinner.”

Jax’s eyes gleamed for a moment as he regarded Noah. What was he thinking so hard about?

“What?” Noah had to know.

“Can you spend the night? It would be nice to have you along for the other two house visits.”

Jax wanted another sleepover, and Noah was all about that. “Yeah. I brought some extra clothes on the off chance that you’d need meto stay.”

“Good.”

That one word set fire to Noah’s imagination. What were all the ways that he could make Jax feel good, that Jax could make him feel good? Images rose up before his mind’s eyes of him and Jax taking and giving each other pleasure … in his big bed, on that balcony, down by the edge of the lake. Who knew he had an exhibitionist streak in him? The idea that someone might see them gave him a small thrill. Would Jax be up for some open-air lovemaking?

“Enjoy your meals, gentlemen!”

Snap out of it, Noah! Pay attention. He smiled his thanks to the server who was setting his food down and waited until Jax was served before he began to eat. Although he loved the food he’d ordered, he had no real idea of how anything truly tasted. He registered light, flavorful, butter in the potatoes, and the steak was cooked to just the right level of doneness to suit him. Even the vegetables were crunchy the way he preferred them, but his whole focus was on the man sitting across from him enjoying his salmon dinner.

“Not hungry anymore? We can bag it up for later.”

“Yeah, sure.”

Jax eyed him suspiciously. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing!” Noah’s denial was immediate. “Just woolgathering is all. Nothing important.” He gathered his wits and continued, to forestall any further questions from Jax. “When do you plan to move up permanently?”

“Classes begin the last Monday of August, so I’ll need to be up here at least sometime in the week before. But what I’d really like is to get the housing sorted so that I can move in as soon as the furniturearrives.”

“So the latest will be in another week or two, then? Unless the housing situation fallsthrough?”

“Yes.” Noah could feel Jax’s eyes on him as he tried to figure out what wasgoing on.

“I’ll be happy to help you move and get settled in.” He couldn’t be any clearer if he tried. Would Jax get the message hidden beneaththe words?

“I’m not proud. I’ll take all offers to help me unload my life again.” A slow, seductive smile crept over his face when he added, “I can guarantee you’ll be suitablyrewarded.”

Noah cocked a brow, raising the beer he’d ordered to his lips. “Oh? What’s a suitable reward for a moving man?”

Jax slid a forkful of food into his mouth, chewed and swallowed, clearly giving his answer some thought.

“What do you think about amassage?”

“With a happy ending?” Noah teased.

Desire flashed in Jax’s eyes as he answered, “If that’s whatyou want.”
