“Yes, thank you. I appreciate it. When will I know? And how soon will I be able to move in if they accept the offer?”

“The owners got back to me within a day on the last two offers, so I imagine it’ll be about the same for you. As to when you can move in, I’m sure you’ll be able to settle that with them as soon as the decision is made. I would assume you’ll be free to move in as soon as the paperwork and legalities are taken care of, though, and they’re already on board with that.”

Jax shook her hand and took his leave, meeting Noah in the outer office.

“Well, it’s time to get back. If all goes well, I’ll be moving in pretty quickly. I know Jim and Annie won’t mind me staying an extra week or two with them, especially since Annie is ready to have thatbaby now.”

It would be a treat to be present to welcome the new Bell baby into the world, and if it was a girl, he’d be doubly happy for them since he knew that was what they hoped for.

“How about you come over for dinner, so Annie doesn’t have to cook for you today? You can go home after that.”

Jax smiled, a slow, knowing smile. He recognized what Noah was doing, and he approved. He didn’t want them to be apart either, even if he knew they hadno choice.

“Sounds like a plan. Let me just text Annie and tell her I’ll be home after dinner.”

Jax followed Noah back to his home, not even caring that the drive took over four hours because of an accident on the highway. Just knowing where he was going, not just in the moment on SR 69, but for the foreseeable future in his life, was a precious gift he hadn’t understood he needed as much as he did. When the time was right, he’d be with Noah permanently, and that was where he was supposed to have been heading all along. They still had to say more than they had already confessed to, but that conversation could wait for another day. He preferred to have the housing situation resolved so when he made his move, he had more to offer his man than words.

Alvaro was sitting on the front porch when Jax pulled in behind Noah. He parked and got out of the car, going to join Noah in front of his father.

“¡Hola, Papi! ¿Cómo te va?”

Alvaro smiled at his son. “I’m fine, mijo. Welcome back.” Then he looked behind at Jax. “It is good to see you again,Profesor. I hear that you were househunting.”

“I was, sir, and I think I may have found the place I want to live in for the foreseeable future.”

Alvaro stood up and gestured for them to follow him into the house. “I waited for you because Noah told me you were coming to dinner. We can talk more as we eat.”

After they washed up, they dug into spicy Indian food while Jax talked about the houses he’d seen and the one he wanted forhimself.

“That sounds like a prime location. But what will you do with such a large house?”

“It’ll be great for when family and friends come to visit, but ultimately, I’m looking to start a family, sir, and I’d prefer to be prepared for the day I begin to build one.”

Jax swept his eyes over to Noah as he spoke, doing his best to telegraph his meaning to his lover.

“Hmm. I’m sure you have someone in mind to start over with.”

Jax repressed the chuckle at Alvaro’s non-subtle fishing expedition. He was pleased that he could confirm the older man’s assumption.

“Yes, sir, I do. I just need to get all my ducks in a row before I say anything to him.”

He could feel Noah’s eyes on him, but he kept his attention on his father, curious to see how he would respond to that comment. He suspected that Alvaro knew who he had in mind, though how he’d have figured that out with only the little information he had was anybody’s guess. Alvaro set his fork down and picked up his glass, taking a sip of his drink before speaking again.

“You see the elements of your life as a row of ducklings,Profesor?” Amusement colored his words and his cheek creased with it.

“There are a few parts to it, sir, so that is an apt comparison.”

Alvaro’s smile bloomed. “Well, I will wish you the best of luck keeping themin line.”

After dinner, when Noah stood next to him by his car, Jax waited for what he could feel Noah had to say. He had no idea what it might be, but he could hope it would be something he’d want to hear.

“I know you’re going to be busy, but when will I see you again?”

“When do you want to see me again?”

Noah’s chuckle warmed him. “Tomorrow. I have two sessions in the morning, but my afternoonis free.”

“Whatever you need, whenever youneed it.”
