I quickly text Saxon.
Me:Hey bro, would you and Catie be up for dinner tomorrow? I’ve been chatting to a girl I really like who’s a bit nervous and I think it would help if we went together?
It takes him about fifteen minutes to come back.
Saxon:Sorry, we were having a bath and then… other stuff.
Me:Jesus. Do you two ever stop?
Saxon:What can I say? I’m irresistible.
Me:And I’m jealous.
I grin, though, pleased that he’s found someone.
Me:So, dinner tomorrow?
Saxon:Yeah, sure, if we can keep it relaxed? Catie’s keen but still nervous about eating out. Maybe we could do Red’s Rib Shack?
Me:Good idea. Shall I book? For seven?
Saxon:Sounds great. What’s her name?
Me:Alice.
Saxon:All right, see you tomoz.
I call the restaurant and book a table, requesting the best one in the house. Then I message Alice again.
Me:Okay, all done! Seven p.m. at Red’s Rib Shack. Do you know it?
Alice:Yes! Thank you so much. I wasn’t sure if you’d actually do it, LOL.
Me:Of course! I’m excited to meet you. I’ll wait for you out the front of the restaurant, okay?
Alice:Thank you so much.
Me:You’re welcome. I look forward to it. See you then!
Alice:Bye, Kip. And thanks again.
I smile as I turn back to my desk. Right, I have a fair amount of work I need to finish. Time to get stuck in.
I start reading the report on my laptop. But my mind keeps drifting to the girl in the red top.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited for a date like this. I just hope she’s as lovely in real life as she seems online.
Chapter Four
Alice
I put down my phone and blow out a long, shaky breath.
I’ve got a date! I cover my face with my hands. Tomorrow I’ll be meeting him for real.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God…
I still can’t believe how it happened. I’d gotten out of the bath with the intention of deleting the app, convinced the whole thing was a terrible idea, but discovered a message waiting announcing that someone had sent me a Super Like. I was flattered, but told myself it didn’t matter, I was still going to delete the app. Then I pulled up his profile… and my stomach did a strange little flip. He’s gorgeous.
