He turns and comes back carrying a bottle of water and something else—chocolate?—and stops before me, surprised. “What are you doing?”

“Um, getting dressed? I… uh… wasn’t sure of the etiquette, you know.”

He studies me for a moment. Then he says softly, “Get back in bed.”

I lay the dress over the chair and climb onto the bed, pulling the duvet over me. He unscrews the top of the bottle of water and hands it to me. I take it, and while I have a drink, he gets in beside me.

“A bit more,” he says when I go to hand it back after a couple of mouthfuls. “It’s good to stay hydrated.”

Smiling, I drink some more, and then he takes it and has some. After screwing the lid back on, he leaves it on the bedside table. Next, he opens the bar of chocolate and breaks off a couple of chunks.

“Open,” he says, holding one up to my lips.

Obediently, I open my mouth, and, looking amused, he slides the piece in. Popping a piece in his own mouth, he moves up close to me. Then, lying on his back, propped on the pillows, he pulls me into his arms and wraps them around me.

I’m half lying on him, snuggled up against him, and I feel a surge of happiness and contentment. “You’re so warm,” I murmur, sliding my arm around him. The chocolate is velvety smooth and adds to the feeling of luxurious satedness.

“Body heat is one thing I’m not short of.” He lifts my chin and claims my lips again.

He kisses me for ages, while he brushes his hand down my back, my hip, and along the thigh that I hook over him, his fingers moving over my skin with long, lazy strokes. It’s sensual but not sexual, almost reverent, and it makes me glow all the way through.

“My beautiful girl,” he murmurs, stroking my face. “I can’t believe I finally got you in my bed.”

“Likewise.” I kiss his chest. “All those years I’ve watched you from afar, and you’re here, naked. Talk about a dream come true.”

He chuckles and kisses my nose. “Do you think Alex would go supernova if he found out?”

“Maybe. I don’t really care right now.”

“Me neither,” he admits.

“Hmm.” I lean on his chest and rest my chin on the back of my hand. “I’m not sure you mean that. I know Alex’s friendship means a lot to you.”

He strokes my hair while he thinks about it. “That’s true.”

“Don’t look so worried. He doesn’t have to know. This is just between you and me, right?”

He slides a strand of my hair through his fingers. “I don’t want you to think I’m putting his feelings above yours. That’s not how it is.”

“Hey, I know.” I move up so I can kiss him. “Come on, I don’t want to spoil this by getting caught up in what my brother thinks. This has nothing to do with him. It’s separate from your working relationship, and even your friendship. You haven’t seduced his little sis. If anything, I seduced his best mate. I’m sorry about that.”

His lips curve up. “No, you’re not.”

“No, I’m not, that’s true.”

We both laugh.

He continues to play with my hair, clearly enjoying the feel of it sliding through his fingers.

“You’re sure you don’t want me to go?” I ask him. “I could use the stairs so I don’t bump into anyone in the elevator.”

He frowns at me. “If you think I’m letting you out of my bed before daylight, you need to think again.”

“Oh.” Every part of that statement surprises me. He wants me to stay the night?

“When are you going back to Wellington?” I ask.

“I’m driving back tomorrow. I have an important meeting with a couple of employees on Tuesday.”
