She threw her hands up. “Of course, I did! I needed to make sure he was dead. I would have performed CPR if I’d thought he had a chance.”

“And you told the captain this?” Zane’s gut twisted, confirming the something’s so not right feeling he had when he was speaking with the captain.

“Yes.” She crossed her arms again.

Fuck.He really didn’t have time to chase two cases in five days. He pinched the bridge of his nose, massaging where he suddenly felt a headache brewing, then closed his eyes.

“Has it occurred to you that your investigation and my dead guy situation might be connected?” Cammie’s matter-of-fact tone bypassed his head pain.

He snapped his eyes open but kept his fingers moving against his blooming headache. “I’m working a missing money case.”

“And missing money has never led to dead bodies before?” She quirked an eyebrow in such an obvious ‘duh’ expression that he wanted to laugh. “You can’t deny there might be some connection, even a tiny one. By helping me, you might be helping yourself.”

She had a point. He lowered his hand. “Fine. Yes, it’s possible the two are connected.”

“My cabin?” She was already turning, expecting him to follow.

“Your cabin,” Zane confirmed with a sigh.
