That would be fantastic, as we wouldn’t have to work together all that much longer.

Hey, a girl can dream, right?

The next day is beautiful. The sun is shining, the sky is a pretty shade of blue, and the temperature is hovering in the low seventies.

I’m allowed to leave work early, since my BMW is being delivered today. There was a slight weather delay in getting it down here from Chicago, but that’s been cleared up, and it’s almost here now.

I’m just pumped to get rid of the rental car. I’m anxious to be back in my own familiar vehicle. And I need my other belongings.

Once I’m at my house, but before my car arrives, I change from a business suit to short jean shorts, a soft pink V-neck tee, and white Keds.

It’ll be nice to have more of my clothes here, as I’m tired of rotating my suits and one dress for work. I also need more jeans, leggings, and hoodies for when it gets cold. The evenings have already been turning a bit chilly. I suspect, despite the warmth of this afternoon, tonight will be no exception.

As I pad down the stairs, phone in hand, the guy driving my car sends a text that he’s about five miles away.

I head straight out to the driveway to meet with him.

I’m not worried about running into Hayden. Practice is a late one today. He probably won’t be home for at least a few more hours.

Enough about him, though.

Why is he always intruding into my thoughts?

I guess because I have to work with him, and he just happens to be renting the house next to mine.

I still can’t believe that stroke of bad luck.

Keeping my eyes averted from his stupid house, I pace up and down the driveway. Just as I’m kicking a pebble off to the side, I hear a car coming down the cul-de-sac.

I look up to see it’s my BMW.

Yay!

The driver, a young guy with reddish hair, pulls into the driveway and up to me. After turning off the ignition, he gets out.

There’s some paperwork to sign, which only takes a few minutes, and then he’s on his way, chugging off in the ole trusty beige rental.

I’m glad we agreed early on that he’d return it for me.

I decide just to leave my car in the driveway for now, as I have several boxes of clothes to unload, and the front door will provide a quick path to my upstairs bedroom.

I’m thankful it’s such a nice day and not raining, as it takes me more trips than I anticipate to lug all the boxes inside, up the stairs, and down the hallway to my bedroom.

When the car is finally empty, I lock up and head inside, closing the front door behind me. I make sure to rearm the alarm, which also locks the door.

With a sigh, I tromp up the stairs, one final duffel bag filled with clothes slung over my shoulder.

Once I reach my bedroom, I drop the bag onto the floor and turn on the lamp on the nightstand.

Daylight is fading.

I hate how the days start to get so noticeably shorter this time of year, like nighttime can’t wait to descend.

Flopping down on my back on the bed, I just lie quietly and take a much-needed breather.

“Phew, someone got their workout in today,” I murmur as I stare up at the ceiling. “But mission accomplished.”

Lifting my head and twisting this way and that, I take in the stacks of boxes around my bed.
