I’m just honest. “Well, I assume we’re kind of seeing each other now, like romantically.”

“I think that’s clear,” he agrees as he resumes toying with my hair. “I don’t have any desire to date anyone else.”

“Good. Me neither.”

We agree to take it slow, though, and just let things unfold.

Thinking about our work situation, I say, “Should we keep our relationship under wraps for now, seeing as we both work for the Thunder?”

Shrugging, he says, “I don’t think it matters. There’s no clause that states we can’t date. At least there’s nothing like that in my contract.”

“Yeah, not in mine either. Still, if we put it out there that we’re together, it could create a lot of pressure.”

“You mean for us to succeed as a couple?”

“Yeah.”

He thinks it over, then says, “Okay, that all makes sense. And since we’re taking things slowly anyway, it’s probably smart to keep our relationship to ourselves. Oh, but I may tell Arden. And probably Nils too.”

Hmm, Nils was like an afterthought, but he sure had a funny look on his face when he mentioned Arden. It was clearly territorial.

I wonder if Arden expressed some kind of interest in me.

Aww, I think my guy is jealous.

In a weird way, that comforts me.

With our relationship status decided for now, we decide to get up, shower, and grab a quick breakfast.

Hayden downs his glass of orange juice while we’re seated at my kitchen table, then he says, “Okay, so I’d love to spend the day with you, but our flight to Florida leaves in, like, a little over an hour. I need to go back over to my house, pack a bag, and get my ass to the airport.”

“I know.” I sigh. “I saw in the schedule that you play the Panthers tonight and the Lightning tomorrow afternoon. Is that right?”

“Yeah, it is,” he confirms. “It’s going to be hectic. But I’ll be back tomorrow night if you want to hang out.”

I smile. “Yeah, I’d like that.”

We have plans already for as soon as he gets back?

Yes!

This relationship is definitely on.

Hayden

On the flight down to Florida, I think a lot about Addison. I’m glad we had the “relationship” talk. It wasn’t even stressful. Taking it slow is a great idea. I’m happy we both agree on that. Though my feelings for her are intense, I don’t want us to rush into something and fuck things up.

But one thing I want to hurry up on is letting Arden know Addison is off-limits. It sucks that I can’t tell him now, as he’s seated right next to me on the team plane, but there are too many players within hearing distance.

And since we’re keeping our relationship between us for now, I have to wait.

I like that we’re keeping it quiet.

I want it to feel special.

Damn it, itisfucking special.

I’ve never known something could feel so fucking right.
