For some reason, that doesn’t stop me from waving a hand down along my side and stating coquettishly, “In the flesh.”

Oops.

Arden rolls with it, replying in a cool tone, “Yes, and what nice flesh it is.”

Oh, hell, we’re not supposed to be doing this. We’re just going to be neighbors and acquaintances.

That’s right, damn it.

I remind myself that I don’t need another broken heart.

That gets me back on track.

Noticing that he’s holding a bottle of what appears to be wine, I clear my throat and, adopting a far less flirty tone, ask, “Would you like for me to take that? Does it need to be chilled?”

“It’s already cold,” he says, also in a more neutral tone, as he holds out the bottle. “But yeah, it’d probably be a good idea to put it in the refrigerator for now.”

“Great.” I take the bottle from him. “I’ll run this in to Addison. She and Hayden are in the kitchen.” I step aside, realizing I have yet to invite the poor guy in. “Come on in, by the way. I didn’t mean to be rude.”

“No worries,” he says, smiling. “I enjoyed the banter.”

Damn, so did I.

A little too much.

As he walks past me, I can’t help but catch a whiff of how awesome the man smells, all soapy and pure sexy male.

I resist the urge to lean in and sniff him.

Willow, get it together!

“Is everything all right?” he asks, eyeing me curiously with his icy blues.

Why do his eyes have to be so clear and pretty?

I kind of want to get lost in them.

Wait, what the hell is my problem?

I must need to eat.

I’m losing it.

Shaking my head to clear my mind, I reply, “Everything is fine.”

Just like you, I think as I show him to the dining room.

So much for getting it together.

I leave him standing next to the table, as I have to get away. I’m acting ridiculous. This is so not me.

From the hall, I look back, waving the wine bottle as I blather, “I better get this into the fridge. Or I should give it to Addison. Or…whatever.”

Get me out of here.

I take off, practically running to the kitchen.

“Pull your shit together,” I hiss under my breath.
