He’s smiling, and since he seems okay with what happened, I take a chance and tease, “Better than a blanket?”

He laughs. “Much.”

Okay, this isn’t so bad. Nothing untoward occurred. Two friends can fall asleep together, right?

I mean, we remained fully clothed at all times. And at least the straddling wasn’t all up on his junk. I was more settled in on his nice, hard thighs.

Er, best to not think about that.

In fact, we should get away from the scene of the crime as quickly as possible. Even though Arden seemed fine with it a minute ago, he’s looking a little uneasy now.

Definitely time to get out of this room, and far away from the sofa.

To get us moving, I ask, “Are you hungry? I can make us breakfast.”

I fully expect him to be up for some food, since he always is, but to my surprise he shakes his head and says, “No, I actually should get going. I have some things to do back at my house.”

I murmur, “Oh, okay.”

I have no idea what sort of things he needs to do back at home, as he never mentioned anything last night, but I don’t question him. It’s obviously not my place.

I’m reminded of that when Arden stands and turns to go.

He’s not saying a word, so I jump in and blather, “Okay, well, I guess I’ll talk to you later.”

“Yeah, sure.” He nods distractedly as he begins to walk away.

Sighing, I just let him go.

This is the first time we’ve left each other without a firm plan to talk or text.

I collapse back onto the sofa. After he teased around about it at first, I didn’t think our falling asleep together had affected our relationship. But it looks like it may have.

Crap.

Is Arden developing feelings for me?

Is that why he’s acting so strangely?

Do I feel something for him, something more than friendship?

That question is still on my mind, and my heart tells me that I do.

Really, I think he does too.

And therein lies the problem.

I sigh.

I hate to think this, but maybe we do need a little separation. And the best way for me to be strong enough to do that is to keep busy.

Good thing I know just how to start.

Hector, my work colleague, has been wanting to do lunch for a while now.

I think it’s time to take him up on his offer.
