Was he jealous?

I know I would have been had he been at the bistro with a woman and not his teammate.

What does that tell me, though?

I’m clearly into the dude.

But I don’t want to be.

I’m not ready to jump into a relationship, and he doesn’t even “do” them.

Ugh, why do we both have to be so messed up?

I try to put all the confusion out of my head and focus on work. It’s easy to get lost in numbers, so I’m fairly successful.

Next thing I know, it’s time to go home.

Thank God.

The drive back goes surprisingly fast, as traffic isn’t too crazy today. Or maybe I just don’t even notice it since my mind is racing.

Once I’m home, I change into comfy jeans and a black-and-silver Thunder tee.

I’m ready to head downstairs totryand relax, but just as I’m walking out of my bedroom, I hear the doorbell ringing.

Who in the hell could that be?

I didn’t order any food, nor am I expecting any packages.

Padding down the stairs in my bare feet, I pop open the front door.

Shit, it’s Arden. I should have looked through the peephole first.

But it’s too late now.

I cross my arms and glare at him. Too bad that’s nothing compared to how he’s looking at me. The man appears beyond perturbed. His chiseled jaw is set, and his blue eyes are more intense than I think I’ve ever seen them.

I hate to admit it, but an irate Arden is sexy and hot. It doesn’t hurt that his muscles look all pumped up in the snug white T-shirt and faded jeans he has on.

I enjoy the view for a beat, still trying to keep up my angry glare, and then my eyes return to his stern face.

Okay, what’s up?

He has no reason to be mad at me.

Fine, whatever, I can give it right the hell back.

Huffing, I snap, “What areyoudoing here?”

“Ha!” he barks. “Do I need an invitation now to stop over?”

“Yes,” I retort, “particularly when we’re not even talking.”

His expression turns smug as he says, “Oh, so wearenot talking? I guess that explains why I haven’t heard from you.”

The nerve of this man!

Jaw dropping, I gawk at him. “Youhaven’t heard fromme? I don’t recall my phone ringing or dinging either, pal.”
