Becky just gives me her famous who-are-you-trying-to-fool look. “You know what I mean. Did you seriously think I didn’t notice you sneaking out to the bathroom three times today?”

“What?” I shift my attention forward just to catch Penny disappearing out of my view.

“And twice last night at the rehearsal.”

Dammit, I was so caught.

“So what? I’m nervous.” I shrug, trying to play it off.

“Nervous to marry the love of your life who treats you like a freaking princess? Yeah, right. Try again.”

“It’s not the wedding. It’s the fact that I’ll be the center of attention.”

Thankfully, before she can answer, Penny reaches the makeshift altar, and it’s Becky’s turn to go.

I give her a little push. “That’s you.”

Her eyes narrow, telling me clearly this isn’t the end of our talk. “We’re not done, missy.”

Oh, I didn’t doubt that for a second.

Which is fine by me. I just needed to get through today first, and then there would be no need for any more secrets or lies.

But first, I had to marry the love of my life.

“Nervous?” Bradley asks as my fingers tighten around his forearm.

“No, I’m ready.”

Ready to marry the love of my life. The only boy I’ve ever loved. The boy who was my everything in every sense possible. The boy who taught me how to open my heart and let him love me. The boy who crushed wall after wall with his kindness and big heart.

I was ready for our life to begin.

On this field and pond where I first fell in love with him.

If that wasn’t fitting, I don’t know what was.

“I’m ready.”

Chapter Two

EMMETT

“My baby boy is finally getting married,” Mom says excitedly, wiping away the tear from the corner of her eye.

“You’d think you’d be aware of that since you’ve been pestering us with wedding details for the last year.”

My joke earns me a slap on the shoulder. “Oh, shush. A mother gets to feel emotional when her only child is getting married.”

“It’s not like he’s moving across the country, Olivia. Give the boy some space to breathe,” Dad rolls his eyes behind her back, and I feel the corner of my mouth twitch.

Of course, my mom doesn’t miss it.

“Don’t you Olivia-me,” she chastises. “We only get to do this once, so it’s gotta be perfect. Emmett and Kate deserve their day to be perfect.”

I was glad to hear Mom included Kate. Not that I was surprised. My family accepted the Adams sisters with open arms from the very first day I introduced them. Kate and Penny were like daughters they never got to have, and they spoiled them rotten.

“Kate is here. My family is here. That’s all I need for this day to be perfect.”
